I knew it was someone carrying me even before my feet touched the ground.
The arms around me were steady, warm, and impossibly familiar.
My first instinct was to struggle and the second was to breathe.
There was only one person whose scent could calm my wolf even while my mind protested.
The cool night breeze brushed against my damp skin as he finally lowered me gently onto solid stone.
I steadied myself before looking around and discovered we were no longer inside the castle.
Moonlight spilled across an old stone platform that stretched toward the cliffside. Moss had claimed parts of the weathered battlements, while vines crept over the cracked walls. Beyond them lay miles of forest, glowing silver beneath an almost full moon.
The sight stole the irritation from my face for a brief moment as the moon seemed larger and closer here.
Its pale light bathed everything around us, making the valley below look almost enchanted.
My wolf stirred immediately but not with aggression rather with longing.
The nearly full moon awakened something primal inside me, filling me with an indescribable sense of peace.
For several moments, I simply stood there, taking it all in.
Only when Alpha Kael’s deep voice broke the silence did I remember why I had been angry in the first place.
“Do you like the view p>
I folded my arms stubbornly. “You literally dragged me out here without asking for my consent p>
He stepped beside me, his expression softer than I had seen in days. “I know p>

“I was trying to make up for last time.” He said in a calm voice.
I looked away before he could see the tiny crack forming in my resolve.

I sighed, watched the moon again before finally replying. I do p>
His smile appeared slowly. “It’ll be even more full and beautiful in a few days p>
I looked back toward the moon. “When is that p>
“Probably on the night of the ball.” He said and the reminder settled over both of us.
The ball is indeed just three days away and everything seems to revolve around it now.
Servants, Nobles, Councilmen, Preparations and Hidden dangers.
For a while, neither of us spoke as the wind carried the scent of pine trees toward us.
Far below, I could hear water rushing somewhere through the valley then I felt him move as his arms slipped gently around my waist from behind.
He rested his chin lightly near my shoulder and the sudden closeness made my heart flutter despite every effort to remain upset and the fact that I was only clad in my bathing linen wrapped weakly around my body.
“So His voice came quietly beside my ear. “Am I forgiven p>

He laughed again. “I suspected as much p>
Then suddenly, he buried his face into my neck, before asking “What about now? Am I forgiven p>
“No!” I managed to say as I gulped down nothing in particular.
He suddenly went further by moving his hands along my waist, sending different sensations all over my body but still, I wasn’t ready to give in.
“Can you forgive me now?” He asked again.
“You’re not forgiven.” I vehemently denied it.
The more I kept saying no… he kept digging deeper into seducing me with those hands of his.

“He truly believed they would march straight to the castle one day so he built another fortress…right beside the first one p>
I laughed harder. “You’re joking, right p>
“I’m not. He ordered workers to construct this entire battlement because he believed enemies were hiding behind every smile p>
I looked around again at the thick stone walls, the old watch paths and the forgotten towers.
“So this entire place was built because your grandfather was paranoid?” I couldn’t help but ask while laughing.
Alpha Kael laughed along with me. “That’s one way of putting it p>
“I can’t believe it p>
“Neither could my father.” We both laughed until our sides hurt and the sound echoed softly across the empty stone walls before disappearing into the night.
Eventually the laughter faded as comfortable silence returned once more.
I watched the stars overhead as there were so many tonight and without thinking, I snake my hand down his body to his crotch area but before I could touch it, he gently caught my wrist.
I frowned as I whispered. “Kael… why do you keep stopping me p>
He didn’t answer and instead, he abruptly stood up while his expression had changed. “We should leave p>

There he was again… Pulling away just when I felt we had finally broken through the invisible wall between us.
I couldn’t understand him. Why couldn’t he allow us to go fully intimate?
If he wanted distance, why bring me here?
If he wanted closeness, why always stop before either of us truly understood where we stood?
The questions swirled endlessly inside my head but neither of us spoke as I wrapped the linen securely around my body.

I stepped closer without complaint as he lifted me effortlessly into his arms.
The familiar rush of wind returned as he sped through the sleeping castle grounds with the speed only an Alpha possessed.
Trees blurred into streaks of shadow as the cold air whipped past us.
Within moments, the servants’ quarters came into view and he slowed only after reaching the entrance.
Carefully, he set me back on my feet and I opened my mouth to say something but suddenly froze in shock.
Standing a short distance from the entrance was the headmaid.
She wasn’t surprised, she wasn’t angry as she simply stood there with her hands folded behind her back.
Her eyes shifted briefly from me to Alpha Kael and without saying a single word, she gave him one small nod.
Then she turned and walked away.
