Chapter 29
SOPHIA’S POV
I stood there after the words left my mouth.
My heart pounded so loudly I could hear it in my ears. My wolf stayed alert inside me. I felt her tense and braced, waiting for the blow that always came when Damien felt challenged.
Damien did not answer me. He didn’t even look surprised.
Instead, he let out a deep breath, as if I had just said something inconvenient. He straightened his cuffs like this was a normal conversation between spouses who were not standing on the edge of ruin.
“We don’t need to talk about that right now,” he said calmly. “You’re upset p>
I stared at him, stunned. “I just asked you for a divorce p>
He waved it away. “You’re emotional. That happens. You act this way when you want attention p>
My chest tightened. Tiffany remained beside him. She smiled a little. She kept watching me like she wanted to see me break.
Damien stepped closer, lowering his voice. He spoke in a tone I knew too well —the one he used when he believed he was being reasonable and generous.
“We’ve been through worse than this,” he said. “We survived it once. We can fix this again p>
“Fix it how?” I asked.
His eyes moved briefly to Tiffany, then back to me.
“We go back to what worked,” he said. “Agreement night p>
My stomach dropped. He couldn’t be serious.
“No,” I said immediately.
“We planned that night carefully,” he continued, ignoring me. “It brought stability. It strengthened the bond. We had Ashley after that p>
My wolf growled softly. She felt sick. I felt sick to my stomach. I felt bile rise in my throat. This just confirmed it – I was nothing to him. Nothing.
Damien never cared about me and he never will.
My hands curled into fists.
“We should have another child,” Damien said. “A second one will stabilize the family. It will fix Ashley’s behavior. It will fix you p>
I stared at him, unable to process what I was hearing.
“You think a child is a tool?” I asked quietly. “Something you use to patch cracks you caused p>
He frowned. “You’re twisting my words p>
“I will not have another child for you,” I said firmly. “Never p>
The shift in him was instant.
His face hardened. His eyes darkened. His wolf moved forward inside him. I could feel the waves from his wolf’s aura. He felt offended and angry at being denied.
“You’re being unreasonable,” he snapped. “You’re letting your emotions control you again p>
Tiffany moved closer then, stepping fully into the space between us. Her voice was calm as she spoke.
“She’s selfish,” Tiffany said. “She’s always been selfish p>
I turned toward her. “You better shut your mouth. This has nothing to do with you p>
She smiled “Everything about this involves me now p>
Damien nodded in agreement. “You’re tearing this family apart,” he said to me. “Ashley is acting out because of you. Because you’re unstable p>
“That’s not true p>
“It is. You failed as a wife and as a mother,” he said coldly, the words landing hard.
Tiffany tilted her head slightly. “A woman who refuses to give her husband children has no right to complain about losing her place p>
My breath caught. My wolf whimpered in pain. I tried to speak. I tried to explain but every time I opened my mouth, Damien cut me off.
“You always play the victim p>
“You always exaggerate p>
“You never take responsibility p>
Tiffany laughed softly. “Why are we even wasting time on this p>
I raised my voice. “You both put me here p>
“Stop shouting,” Damien barked.
“See?” Tiffany said. “She’s unreasonable. Totally unhinged p>
They talked over me. They drowned me out. My words meant nothing. I realized, slowly and painfully, that neither of them was listening. They had already decided who I was. What I deserved.
Something inside me went quiet. I turned away.
I walked out of the villa without another word.
My hands shook as I drove. Tears blurred the road, but I kept going.
When I reached Sky Manor, it was late. The lights were dim. Marco opened the door, took one look at my face, and pulled me into his arms.
I broke. I cried into his chest. He patted my back, trying to soothe me.
“I tried,” I sobbed. “I really tried p>
He held me tightly. “You did nothing wrong sister p>
The noise brought mom and dad running. Patricia followed close behind. They surrounded me, looking worried.
“What happened p>
“Sit down p>
“Here, drink this p>
I told them everything in broken sentences. About the divorce. About the child. About Tiffany.
Marco’s arms tightened around me.
“Damien never deserved you,” he said.
Mom stroked my hair with tears in her eyes. My dad’s jaw was tight with anger. Patricia helped me lie down, tucking a blanket around me like I was still a child.
I cried until sleep took me.
The next morning, I went to the hospital early. I buried myself in work. I needed the numbness.
A patient was rushed in. She was masked. Her body shook. She avoided eye contact.
I spoke calmly, professionally. “Please remove your mask p>
She hesitated but when she did, my world stopped.
“Bianca,” I whispered.
Her face was bruised and swollen.
She looked broken.
“What the hell p>
