Chapter 258 The Order
THIRD PERSON’S POV
Meanwhile… several miles away…
The atmosphere inside Damien’s office was suffocating.
Declan knelt on the floor. His face was pale. Sweat covered his forehead.
Across from him, Damien sat behind his desk.
The silence between them felt deadly.
“What did you say?” Damien asked.
Damien’s voice was dangerously calm. It was worse than if he shouted or growled.
Declan swallowed hard. For the first time in years, he looked genuinely afraid.
He lowered his head.
“I said… Jessie attacked Sophia.” Declan murmured.
The words echoed through the office. For a moment, nobody said anything.
Damien froze. His wolf immediately became alert.
Suddenly, his wolf growled inside him in a loud way. The sound echoed through his chest.
Damien stared at them in disbelief. Without even realizing it, his wolf started to release a bit of his power.
Then, a terrifying aura filled the room.
Damien sat there, not saying anything. He seemed completely calm but on the inside, his wolf was practically losing control.
“He touched what’s ours” his wolf snarled.
Damien’s hands gripped the armrest of his chair, trying to calm himself. His claws were already coming out.
His jaw tightened as he forced himself to calm down.
Declan forced himself to continue.
“I ordered him to do it.” Declan confessed.
After he said those words, there was silence. Complete silence.
Damien’s hands slowly tightened into fists. Every vein in his arms became visible.
His wolf exploded with rage. More of his aura filled the room.
His aura came out in waves that hit Declan hard. Even as a dominant wolf, Declan’s wolf was forced to submit.
Declan’s heart pounded wildly. He knew he had made a mistake….a huge mistake.
“Jessie didn’t act alone,” Declan said “I told him to hurt her. I was right there when it happened”
The office seemed to grow colder. The walls seemed to close around on Declan. The place felt suffocating.
Damien didn’t say a word yet. Instead, he slowly stood.
The movement alone made Declan tremble.
“What?” Damien said quietly, very quietly.
His voice sounded dangerous, very dangerous.
Declan’s heart started pounding even faster. He started to panic. His wolf went quiet inside him.
Declan tried to explain “Dahlia was hurt.”
Damien’s expression darkened further. His fists clenched even more.
“What does that have to do with Sophia?” he asked.
Declan opened his mouth to say something then he closed it.
He swallowed nervously “Everyone’s attention was on her. I was scared Dahlia wasn’t going to make it”
“So you decided to beat a woman recovering from a miscarriage?”
Declan opened his mouth again but no words came out.
The next second, a loud sound echoed through the room.
BAM!
Damien’s foot slammed directly into his chest. Declan screamed in pain as he crashed into the floor.
He hit the ground hard. Pain exploded through his body and for a moment, he couldn’t breathe.
He gasped for breath. His wolf was whimpering inside him now.
Damien looked absolutely furious. His eyes had gone completely dark and the aura radiating from him was enough to make Declan’s eyes water. His Alpha aura filled the entire room in a huge force.
The furniture shook. The windows rattled. Even the air seemed afraid.
“You touched Sophia?” Damien asked. His wolf’s tone bled into his voice, making it echo.
Declan coughed violently. There was blood at the corner of his mouth.
“Brother-“
Damien moved closer and kicked Declan again. It was harder this time.
Declan cried out in pain as he hit the ground again. He held his chest, trying hard to breathe.
Damien’s wolf was raging. Every image suddenly returned in his mind – Sophia’s bruises, the blood, her tears, her miscarriage.
And now…this.
Damien blamed himself. All of it had happened while he was distracted, while he was buying Tiffany gifts, while he was ignoring Sophia.
This was all his fault. The realization hit him hard.
For the first time, he truly understood how badly he had failed her.
His chest tightened painfully. His wolf howled in anger, not only at Declan but at himself as well.
Declan struggled to sit up “Brother-”
“Where is Jessie?” Damien asked quietly.
Damien was already thinking of many torture methods to use on the bastard. He dared to touch his wife?
“Jessie disappeared.” Declan managed to say in between gasping for air. He coughed again “I think Zade took him.”
Damien’s eyes narrowed instantly. The pieces finally began connecting.
Of course, Zade would protect Sophia.
Everything suddenly made sense. Because Zade had already learned the truth and Damien had not.
Damien felt guilt so hard that his chest ached.
Sophia had suffered so much and he hadn’t even known. After suffering a painful miscarriage, she was beaten.
For several seconds, he simply stood there, breathing heavily.
Then suddenly he grabbed his coat.
Declan looked confused “Where are you going?”
Damien didn’t answer immediately.
His wolf had only one thought – Sophia.
He needed to see her. He needed to know how badly she was hurt.
He needed to explain, needed to apologize. Hell, he needed something. Anything.
Because for the first time in a very long time…he realized Sophia had been suffering while he looked the other way.
And that realization was destroying him.
Without another word, Damien stormed toward the office door.
His expression was deadly. His wolf was restless inside him and his destination was clear.
