SOPHIA’S POV
“Sophia, are you out of your mind?” Declan started, but I cut him off with a raised hand.
“Get your wallet out and transfer the money,” I ordered. “Now p>
For once, he obeyed. I watched as he made the transfer. Twenty thousand dollars gone. Just like that.
The leader’s phone pinged, and he checked it with a satisfied smirk. “Well, well. She actually paid. Alright, sweetheart. Let’s see if you can hold your liquor as well as you hold your ground p>
One of his companions brought out a bottle of clear liquid that made my stomach turn just looking at it.
Moonshine. Of course, it was moonshine.
I took the bottle. This was going to hurt.
I uncapped the bottle. The wolves were watching me, waiting to see if I’d actually go through with it.
I raised the bottle to my lips and drank. The liquid burned like fire going down my throat. My eyes watered but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t stop.
The room spun around me. I could hear the wolves cheering. I could feel Declan’s horrified stare, but it all seemed distant, like I was watching from underwater. My hands were shaking by the time I was halfway through.
“Holy shit,” someone said. “She actually did it p>
The leader was looking at me with respect. “You’re tougher than you look, Luna p>
I wasn’t their Luna. I wasn’t anyone’s Luna anymore but I didn’t correct him. I was too busy trying not to throw up.
“We’re… even?” I managed to get out.
“Yeah,” the leader said. “We’re even. Get your brother-in-law out of here before I change my mind p>
I turned to Declan, who was staring at me like he’d never seen me before. “Let’s go p>
We went outside and Declan turned to me with an angry expression.
“You had no right,” he screamed. “No right to humiliate me like that in front of those wolves p>
I stared at him in disbelief. “Humiliate you? I just saved your ungrateful ass from getting torn apart p>
“I didn’t ask you to. I’m a Stone! I don’t need some… some breeder coming to my rescue p>
The word hit me hard. What? Breeder? M
“You’re pathetic,” I said quietly, “Your brother is pathetic. Your whole family is pathetic. You strut around like you own the world, but you’re nothing without the pack name backing you up. “
Declan’s face went red. “How dare you! You’re nobody! You only matter because you happened to spread your legs for my brother and pop out a kid p>
My wolf snarled, wanting blood. I could feel my eyes flash gold and my canines extending slightly. The alcohol was making it harder to control her.
“I should’ve let them tear you apart” I spat. “It would’ve saved everyone a lot of trouble p>
His hand came up fast, moving to hit me across the face. My wolf roared, ready to hit back, ready to show this spoiled brat exactly what happened when you attacked a she-wolf-
But the blow never landed.
A hand caught Declan’s wrist mid-swing, squeezing hard enough that I heard bones crack. Declan cried out in pain, and I looked up to see Damien standing there, looking angry as hell.
“What,” Damien said. His alpha voice made every wolf in the bar go still, “do you think you’re doing p>
“Damien-” Declan tried to pull away, but Damien’s grip was iron. “She- she had no right p>
“No right?” Damien’s eyes flashed red. “She had every right to do what she did p>
“She’s nothing p>
“Enough.” The single word carried so much power that Declan’s mouth snapped shut. Damien released his wrist with force that sent Declan stumbling backward. “Get in the car. Now. We’ll discuss this at home p>
