Chapter 363
Chapter 363:
For an extended period, Gabriela soothed Myah, patiently offering comfort until her distress finally subsided.
Before leaving, she gently advised Delia to keep a close watch over Myah, then stepped out of the garden adorned with blooming white roses, their fragrance lingering in the air.
Outside, Wesley lounged against his car, a cigarette loosely held between his fingers. The glow of a nearby streetlamp cast a long shadow, accentuating his tall frame and lending him a solitary aura.
At the sound of the gates creaking open, he swiftly tossed the half-smoked cigarette into a nearby bin.
Gabriela’s brow furrowed as she approached him. “Mr. Moss, with your heart condition, why are you still smoking?” she asked, concern lacing her voice.
Wesley gave a nonchalant shrug, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Back in my younger days, I smoked heavily. After the diagnosis, I gave it up. Tonight, I wasn’t smoking — just holding a lit cigarette for old times’ sake p>
Sometimes, former smokers would light a cigarette not to inhale but to savor its familiar scent, a quiet acknowledgment of their past.
“Is something troubling you? Is that why you lit it?” she pressed gently.

Wesley’s gaze locked onto hers, steady and intense. “You already know the reason p>
His heart condition had made him detached, rarely showing ripples of emotion. Yet Gabriela had a unique ability to stir his otherwise calm demeanor.
She met his eyes, taking in his striking features and the depth of his dark gaze. A pang of sorrow hit her.
Even without Brenden’s interference, it seemed destiny was determined to keep them apart.
Breaking eye contact, Gabriela murmured, “Mr. Moss, I would like to head home p>
Wesley sensed a growing distance in her, especially since she had grown closer to Myah.
Once, she had been warm and attentive, perhaps for the sake of her paycheck. Now, her demeanor was cool, her focus often elsewhere when they were together.
It left him feeling helpless.
As they drove, Wesley broke the silence. “Gabriela, how did you and Myah get so close p>
Leaning against the window, Gabriela watched the city blur past. “We knew each other long ago. It had been so long that when I saw her at your place, I didn’t recognize her at first,” she said softly.
Wesley’s grip on the steering wheel faltered briefly. “You knew each other before?” he asked, his tone even.
“Yes. She was just a kid then — small and thin.” Gabriela paused, a faint smile crossing her face. “I never imagined she would grow into such a beautiful girl p>
Wesley chuckled lightly. “No wonder you didn’t recognize her p>
Gabriela fell silent, her thoughts drifting to Myah’s earlier words.
She had promised to distance herself from Wesley, yet she had agreed to serve as his part-time secretary for the GD Fashion Show project.
Now that she had secured the project, would it seem ungrateful to cut ties?
After a moment’s hesitation, she spoke up. “Mr. Moss, you mentioned that I should work as your personal secretary part-time p>
He glanced at her, waiting for her to continue.
“Since we only have a verbal agreement and no contract, I was wondering how long this arrangement would last p>
Wesley abruptly pulled the car to the side of the road, turning to face her. Leaning closer, he said, “What’s this? You got the project, and now you’re ready to walk away p>
“No,” Gabriela stammered, unnerved by his proximity. “You know I have my own company to run p>
