“I know he’s a good man. Tarquin treats him like a brother, so how bad could he be?” Folly argued, his voice tight with frustration. “I just don’t want Blossom with him. It’s not that I think he’s a bad person, and I’m not looking down on him for being a bodyguard p>
He paced the floor, running a hand through his hair. “I know he saved Blossom’s life. He’s her savior, a hero to the Blythe family. But gratitude is one thing. He just isn’t marriage material p>
Elysia Thorne stood there, completely speechless. She couldn’t find the right words to counter him.
Folly massaged his temples, letting out a heavy sigh. “Just go in and talk some sense into her. Whatever happens, she can’t keep neglecting her health. That comes first p>
Elysia nodded. Stepping further into the house, she first made her way to Hollis’s room. Blossom’s mother was lying in bed, crying her eyes out. Elysia spent a long time comforting her, and only after Hollis had calmed down did she head over to Blossom’s room.
The door was locked from the inside. She knocked softly. “Blossom, it’s me. Let me in p>
A few moments later, the door clicked open.
Blossom Blythe stood there, her hair disheveled and her eyes swollen and red. The second she saw Elysia, she threw herself into her arms and burst into tears, looking entirely heartbroken.
“Elysia p>
Her heart aching for her friend, Elysia gently rubbed her back and led her to the bed.
Just like they used to do in their college dorm, they kicked off their shoes, climbed onto the mattress, and huddled together to talk.
Elysia spoke in a soft, soothing tone. “You don’t need to worry about Folly and Hollis. I just saw them. They’re upset, but they’re physically fine, and they’re really worried about you p>
She brushed a stray lock of hair from Blossom’s face. “I understand how you feel, but try to see it from their perspective. As parents, it’s only natural they’d want you to end up with Lancelot p>
Blossom’s voice was hoarse as she let out a tearful sob. “I get that, too. I know Lancelot is a great guy, but I’m not in love with him p>
“The real reason my parents and I got into this massive fight is that they outright forbade me from being with Axel p>
“They told me I didn’t have to choose Lancelot, but I could never have Axel-over their dead bodies p>
“But what am I supposed to do? I’m completely in love with him p>
“I can’t control myself. It’s like I’m addicted to him, and there’s no cure p>
She buried her face in her hands. “I don’t know if I’ll ever fall in love with anyone else in the future, but right now Axel is the only man want to marry. I can’t have him, I’d rather stay single for the rest of my life p>
Elysia sighed softly. Blossom wasn’t addicted to Axel; she was just hopelessly poisoned by love. She grabbed a tissue and gently dabbed at her friend’s tears.
“I know. I understand exactly how you feel. But the main issue right now isn’t whether your parents approve or not it’s whether you and Axel can even make work the first place p>
“Wait until the two of you are officially together before you worry about convincing
Folly and Hollis. For now, just let them vent and don’t argue back p>
She offered an encouraging smile. “Tarquin was just telling me earlier that as soon as Axel gets back, he’s forcing him to take a long vacation so the two of you can finally spend some quality time together”
Blossom’s head snapped up. “When exactly is he coming back p>
Elysia replied, “We don’t have a confirmed date yet. But the second we get any news, I’ll let you know p>
The two of them talked for a long time. Blossom had just barely managed to steady her emotions when Tarquin Bradford called.
