“What about me? Did you really think I didn’t know how you operate? You would never swallow your pride and come to me unless you were at a complete dead end.” Lacey was telling the truth, and Adrian had absolutely no retort.
“If you want to die with a clear head, then listen closely. Back then, it was that venomous snake, Fiona Quinn, who ordered someone to stuff Mira into a plastic bag and throw her into a dumpster outside the hospital. If Sebastian Quinn hadn’t found her, Mira would have suffocated. She could have been tossed out with the actual garbage at any moment. My brother played along and swapped the babies. Except he wasn’t as utterly evil as you people-he just left Mara next to the dumpster for someone to find. That’s where all this subsequent mess came from p>
“Sebastian swapped the babies? I knew it,” Adrian muttered, sounding as though he were talking to himself.
“What? You heartless bastard, were you actually involved?” Lacey demanded, her voice rising. “Was your conscience eaten by dogs? That was your own biological daughter, and you just let someone throw her away? Did you want her dead p>
“Don’t be ridiculous. I never ordered anyone to kill her. Fiona told me she had the child given away to a kind family p>
“And you actually believed Fiona?” Lacey scoffed. “You brainless idiot. She was your mistress. She was jealous of me. She wanted my child and me dead, and you actually bought her absolute nonsense p>
“Didn’t you listen to her, too p>
“That was because I was deceived by the two of you! I was blinded by my own stupidity p>
“Fiona also told me back then that Mira wasn’t my biological daughter,” Adrian rushed to explain, desperate to shift the blame. “She said… she said Mira was the product of you and Norman. That’s why I p>
Adrian no longer cared about protecting Fiona. He just wanted to redirect Lacey’s furious crosshairsz away from himself. It was a classic case of self-preservation. After all, Lacey and Fiona were already sworn enemies; throwing another log on the fire wouldn’t hurt Fiona really had said those things, and he had been fooled by her for a long time, so he felt perfectly justified in throwing her under the bus.
It was precisely because of those
