Mara’s blood ran cold. Someone was paying them to torture her.
It had to be Mira. If she ever got out of here, she would kill Mira, no matter the cost.
Meanwhile, at the Porter Entertainment offices, Roxanne stared at the stock charts. Things weren’t going smoothly.
Even with Lucian there, Mira had seemingly adapted to his tactics overnight. The day before, Mira had just deflected their attacks. Today, she was actively draining their funds.
Lucian had tried a few maneuvers, only to lose another ten million dollars to Mira’s traps. He couldn’t believe a girl this young had such terrifying skills.
The truth was, Dominic West had remotely rebuilt Mira’s firewall overnight, making it completely impenetrable. Mira had also personally drained Lucian’s private bank account.
“We should call the police,” one of Roxanne’s executives suggested. Cyberattacks on financial institutions were highly illegal.
“No,” Lucian snapped before Roxanne could speak.
If they had been the victims of an unprovoked attack, they could have involved the authorities But Lucian had struck first, and Mira definitely had proof. If the police investigated, they would both face massive fines, or worse, prison time.
The war of attrition continued, and Mira held the high ground. Lucian, who had
thought himself invincible, was getting thoroughly humiliated.
While neither side could land a fatal
blow, Porter’s stock remained in a dangerously low slump. If this
dragged on, panic would spread, and shareholders would start
panic-selling.
Mira wasn’t worried. She had plenty of capital. When the stock tanked, she would just buy it all up at dirt-cheap prices. If she secured fifty-one percent of the shares, she would own Porter Entertainment outright and kick Roxanne to the curb.
Roxanne, however, was sweating.
As the market neared closing time, one of Roxanne’s lackeys walked in.
“Ms. Porter, it’s done, just as you asked p>
“Good. Keep it up tomorrow,” Roxanne replied dismissively.
“But… if they beat her every day, aren’t you worried they might kill her p>
“She needs to experience true hell before she sees us as her saviors. Don’t worry about her dying. They know better than to bring a murder charge down on themselves p>
“I heard they barely let her eat. They take most of her food p>
Roxanne frowned. “Tell the Boss in there to lay off her food. If she’s working and taking a beating every day, she needs to eat. If she dies, it’s on them p>
