Chapter 645

Mira Mercer went to see Gwen Quinn after lunch. Gwen had just finished eating as well.

“Oh, Mira, you’re here. Have a seat,” Gwen said. “Have you eaten? If not, I can have something brought over p>

“I’ve already eaten, Gwen,” Mira replied, dropping the formal family title to keep things casual. “I just wanted to drop by and see where you’re staying. That way, if I ever run into any issues, I know where to find you p>

Mira said it with a half-joking tone.

“Sure, come to me with whatever you need,” Gwen replied.

“Though I can only help with your academic problems. I can’t fix your personal drama p>

“What personal drama p>

Mira blinked, genuinely confused.

“Sera mentioned that you haven’t even been at the university for a month, yet you’ve already made the front page of the Aethelgard Social Forum several times,” Gwen said. “She also said you’ve been taking your classmates out to expensive restaurants p>

“Mira, whether you have money or not, you need to be careful with your spending. Don’t chase after fleeting vanity now, only to end up broke and struggling later p>

She sure has a lot to say, Mira thought. Made the front page several times? Was Seraphina just jealous?

Having weathered countless storms in her past, Mira immediately sensed that something was off.

“I have been in the spotlight a few times, but that’s just because I naturally draw attention,” Mira said smoothly. “I can’t help it p>

“As for you, Gwen, there’s absolutely no need to worry p>

“If I run into any trouble, I can handle it myself. I won’t come to you for help, and I certainly won’t drag the Quinn family down with me p>

“And as for eating at nice restaurants, if I can afford it, then I have my reasons to go. You and Sera really don’t need to stress over it p>

“No, no, I’m not worried about you dragging us down,” Gwen backpedaled. “I’m just trying to tell you that you’re here to study. It’s best to avoid people and situations that have nothing to do with your academics p>

Dammit, do you think I want to deal with those people? Mira mentally scoffed. They’re the ones coming after me!

As an elder relative, Gwen hadn’t offered a single word of genuine comfort, choosing instead to lecture her.

Thank god she was completely independent. If she had actually needed to rely on the Quinn family for survival, she would have been nothing but a burden, forced to walk on eggshells every single day.

Mira simply smiled. “Right, I understand. I have a class to get to, so I’ll get out of your hair p>

As it stood, Eleanor was the only person in the Quinn family who genuinely cared about her.

Her uncle had seemed decent at first, but after this little interaction with his wife, Mira knew she had to reevaluate that relationship.

In the days that followed, Mira fell back into a grueling routine, much like the one she had kept during her senior year of high school.

She woke up early every morning to practice taekwondo, then attended her classes, burying herself in ker textbooks to ensure she passed everything with flying colors

Mira had looked into it and realized she couldn’t double-major in finance until her sophomore year.

On top of that, the program required her to pass all her core classes with a GPA of at least 2.3.

Still, she had plenty of extra energy, which she channeled into studying finance textbooks ahead of time.

She had originally planned to ask Gwen to help explain some of the more complex financial concepts,

but after their last conversation, she

scrapped that idea completely

If Mira needed textbooks from other majors, she could just buy used ones from the seniors.

Whenever she had questions, she could easily hire top-tier upperclassmen or graduate students to tutor her.

It would cost a few extra bucks, sure, but it was worth it to avoid dealing with

anyone’s condescending attitude.

To save time, Mira decided to spend most of her nights at the dorms.

The campus was massive, and the commute back to her apartment ate up too much

of her day.

She only went back to her own place on weekends or when she had special business to attend to.

Since Eleanor genuinely enjoyed

staying at Mira’s place, Mira saw no reason to send the older woman

back it was nice to have someone

around who actually cared for her.

If it came down to it, Mira was more than capable of providing for her grandmother for the rest of her life.

When Mira visited her company that weekend, Owen Lance gave her an update. “Lucian North agreed to join Solflare Entertainment. He’s on board to work for us p>

“Perfect. Since he’s willing to join, put him in charge of cybersecurity for our investment firm. Start him off as the director p>

Owen nodded.

“Make sure we follow through on the protection we promised his family, too,” Mira added.

Owen nodded again.

Even though he was older and acted as a mentor figure to her in some respects, when it came to business, he strictly deferred to Mira’s final say as the boss.
