Chapter 508
Lacey felt Adrian was acting completely unhinged. Instead of giving him a straight answer, she hung up, planning to call her eldest son.
To Adrian, however, her silence felt like a victory. He smugly assumed he had bet on the right horse.
He shouldn’t push too hard or she might act arrogant. He would let her stew overnight and call her tomorrow. She’d probably say yes.
As long as she agreed to bail him out financially, he would divorce Fiona without hesitation. At worst, he could just keep Fiona and Mara hidden as his mistresses, just like the old days.
The mere thought cured half his ailments.
“Ethan, what’s wrong with your father?” Lacey asked over the phone.
“If you care about him so much, go back and live with him. I’m sure he’d love that right now. At worst, you can be the main wife and Fiona can be the mistress. Wishing your big happy family all the best,” Ethan replied sarcastically.
“Ethan, what are you talking about? I just asked one question and you attack me like this? I know I failed you kids in the past, and I want to apologize. I want to make amends. But none of you will accept it. What do you want me to do? What can I do?” Lacey broke into tears.
“Alright, alright, stop crying. I just don’t get it. After everything he did to you, why do you still care?” That was what truly infuriated Ethan.
“He just called me, saying he missed me, that he regretted everything p>
“And you went soft again? You’re planning to forgive him p>
“Who said I went soft? I just want to know why he’s suddenly confessing his love and submitting. What exactly happened over there p>
“What do you think happened? The company is going bankrupt, and he wants you to sponsor him with an investment.” Ethan paused, stilk worried about her naivety. “He’s just eyeing the cash in your hands. Did you really think he had a change of heart? Guard your hest egg. That’s your only security for the rest of your life. If you let him scam you out of it, I won’t help you again p>
With that, Ethan hung up.
Am I really that bad? Am I that stupid that people can just con me out of my money?
Lacey fumed after her son’s scolding. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep until the early hours of the morning.
Not long after drifting off, her
ringtone jolted her awake. Peeling her eyes open, she saw Adrian’s
name glowing on the screen. Shet
swiped to reject it immediately Her head was pounding she just wanted to sleep.
“Throwing a little tantrum, are we? Hanging up on me,” Adrian muttered to himself.
He had woken up early to check his phone for missed calls or texts. Nothing. Even after Fiona went home, she hadn’t sent a single message to check on him. People truly were heartless.
He remembered the old days.
Whenever it was time to clock out, Lacey and Fiona would fight to call him, bombarding him with texts, while other women constantly fooked for excuses to hit on him.
Now he was bedridden in a hospital, and no one cared.
Even worse was Mara-since he fainted and got admitted yesterday, she hadn’t checked in once.
Adrian had planned to wait. Knowing Lacey, he assumed she would call back eventually.
But time was running out, and his anxiety over the company pushed him to dial her number again. He never expected she would actually hang up on him.
Did she figure out he wanted her money? He quickly dismissed the idea.
