Adrian picked up his phone and dialed again.
“Adrian, are you out of your mind? Are you going to let me sleep or not?” Lacey yelled. “Let me tell you right now, stop dreaming. I am not giving you a single dime p>

“No, I don’t want your money. I really just miss you p>
“Cut the crap. Do you really think I don’t know what you’re plotting? You’re a dinosaur, and you’re trying to sell yourself for some cash? Get out of here and don’t make me despise you p>
Lacey hung up and powered off her phone.
Sell himself? Who was selling himself? Since when did Lacey dare to ride roughshod over him?
Adrian was muttering curses to himself when Fiona walked into the room carrying breakfast.
“Adrian, time to eat p>
Seeing her brought him no joy whatsoever. “Where’s Mara p>
“You forgot? With both of us away, she has to manage the company’s affairs p>
“The company is a total mess right now. What could she possibly do p>
“Well, they need a boss to hold the fort, don’t they p>
“That’s true. It’s tough on her. Just make sure you tell her not to say anything stupid. When in doubt, play dumb p>

In reality, Fiona had ordered Mara to scour the corporate accounts and liquidate any remaining assets she could get her hands on. Stuffing their own pockets with cash was the only thing that mattered.
Otherwise, if the company actually folded and this old man dropped dead, how were she and her daughter supposed to survive?
By noon, Adrian had exhausted all potential allies. Knowing the end was near, he swallowed his pride and dialed his most hated enemy, Shane Porter, clinging to a final shred of hope.

Adrian knew that whether he begged Lacey, Ethan, or Mira, he was dealing with his own blood. It would be humiliating, but they wouldn’t publicize his ruin. They would at least leave him some dignity.
Shane, however, would be utterly ruthless if he gained total control. But Adrian had no choice left.
