Mira honestly didn’t think much of it; building good relationships with her peers was just part of the college experience.
She even harbored plans to scout a few top-tier students from her cohort to recruit for her own company down the line.
Even if guys tried to hit on them, that was perfectly normal, as college romances were a dime a dozen. If she wasn’t interested, she could simply say no.
There was no reason to completely isolate herself from her classmates just because of a few overeager boys.
After walking a bit further, Elara shot Harvey a look. “Are you out of your mind? Why wouldn’t you let them help us p>
Harvey glanced around to ensure no one else was in earshot before sighing. “You poor, naive child. You really have no idea how sinister the world can be p>

Their banter drew a genuine laugh from Mira.
Harvey continued dispensing his worldly wisdom to Elara. “There were plenty of other freshmen standing right there, but those guys specifically made a beeline for the two of you. Obviously, they had an ulterior motive.
Besides,” he added, gesturing to Silas Vane and the rest of their security detail, “you’ve got a whole team of bodyguards trailing you. They could carry your measly bags with one hand tied behind their backs p>
“What kind of ulterior motive could they possibly have? It’s not like they were going to mug us on campus p>
Elara was far too innocent for her own good.
Harvey stared at her as if she had just sprouted a second head.
“See? This is exactly what I mean by naive. Trust me, what they were trying to do is way worse than getting mugged p>
“Stop exaggerating! What could possibly be worse than getting robbed p>
Elara simply couldn’t wrap her mind around his logic.
“They were trying to steal your heart!
Think about it. If you get robbed, you lose some cash. You’re annoyed for a few days, and then you get over it.
But if someone breaks your heart? That can ruin your entire life p>
“That’s ridiculous! Who’s out here harvesting organs on a college campus? That’s completely illegal! I’ve never even heard of such a thing p>
Their conversation had completely derailed. They were on two entirely different wavelengths.
The rest of the group stood there in stunned silence.
“Mira, where did you even find this girl p>
Harvey looked completely exasperated, like a professor trying to explain calculus to a toddler.
Mira hid a smile, offering him a helpful tip. “You have to be blunt with Elara. Metaphors just fly right over her head p>
Elara had grown up in a small, sheltered world.
She had a straightforward personality to match; she kept her head down, focused
on her studies, and minded her own business.
If everything went according to plan, Mira intended to bring Elara into her inner circle. She knew Elara would make an exceptional core secretary one day.
Once they reached the computer science department, Harvey stopped showing off and allowed the enthusiastic upperclassmen to help Mira and Elara complete their registration.
Afterward, the group headed to the dormitories to pick up their assigned bedding and living essentials.

though they weren’t actually in the same suite.
Still, being right next door made it easy enough to check in on each other, so neither felt the need to request a room transfer.
When Mira pushed open her door, two of her roommates had already moved in.

One of the girls immediately stepped forward to introduce herself the moment Mira walked in.
She was slender and of average height, with bright, energetic eyes and a radiant, sun-kissed complexion.
