“You guys are Callie’s brothers. Whatever makes you happy, I’m fine with it,” Silas said, his tone casual.
Julius glanced up, a skeptical eyebrow raised. “Aren’t you worried Callie might not agree p>
Silas shook his head. “Not really. If you guys are bold enough to bring this up, I figure you must have a way to get Callie on board. Anyway, that’s your problem, not mine. If I used Callie as an excuse right now, I’m pretty sure none of you would buy it p>
He was sharp, and none of them could deny that.
The three brothers exchanged glances, each nodding, temporarily satisfied.
“Oh, by the way, mind if I read your fortune?” Julius asked.
Silas barely hesitated. “Go ahead. You’re Callie’s brother. Whatever you want to know, knock yourself out p>
Julius grinned, his curiosity piqued. “Alright, no holding back then p>
“Be my guest,” Silas replied, just as cool.
Julius pulled out a battered old deck of tarot cards from his coat pocket. “Just need your birthday p>
Silas gave it, and Julius started shuffling, his face gradually growing more serious with every card he turned.
Quentin and Norton watched him intently, picking up on the subtle crease forming between his brows. Both of them felt a twist of unease. Julius had always had a strange knack for these readings. He was never wrong. If he looked this unsettled, it probably wasn’t a good sign.
They wanted Silas to pass their test. Sure, they needed to scrutinize him, but honestly, if anyone was good enough for Callie, well, it just might be this guy. She clearly liked him, and besides, who else even came close?
“So… what’s the verdict?” Quentin asked as soon as Julius finished.
Norton and Silas both looked at Julius, hanging on his next words.
Julius’s face was pale. He stared at Silas for a long moment, then said, “You… I don’t know how to explain this, but according to these cards, you don’t exactly come up as… alive p>
Quentin blinked. “What’s that supposed to mean? Not alive p>
“I don’t know,” Julius muttered, shaking his head. “I’ve never had this happen before. It’s like… there’s this fog, and I can’t see anything ahead for you. Not for you, not for Callie. Nothing. It’s totally blank p>
It rattled him, m. He’d never had a reading turn up like this, especially not for Callie. He didn’t want her to have a tough future. He definitely didn’t want her heart broken. But not being able to see anything at all? That was rare. And Silas, for all purposes alive and well, fast… didn’t read as living?
It made his skin crawl.

Quentin looked just as lost. “Yeah, Julius, what the hell does that mean p>
Julius just shook his head. “I honestly have no idea. I can’t get a clear reading. I’ve never seen anything like this before p>
He stared at Silas, searching for answers.
Silas just chuckled, a little self-deprecating. “Maybe I’ve got a weird destiny or something? Doesn’t have to be a bad thing, right p>
