Mrs. White smiled thinly. “What were you doing just now p>
“I was just watching them,” Lisette said, her heart skipping a beat. “I’m rooting for Blythe to win p>
Mrs. White gave her a long, meaningful look but didn’t press the matter. She then glanced at Jett and gave a slight shake of her head.
Meanwhile, Portia Sutton stood faithfully by Calliope’s side. She knew another win was imminent, and if it weren’t for the crowd, she would have been dancing with glee.
“Callie, you’re amazing!” she whispered.
“After this round, we’ll have not only recouped our losses but made a hefty profit.” Calliope shot her a grin. “Of course. I told you, if you lose, I’ve got your back.” Across the table, Blythe, who was still agonizing over her next move, overheard them and felt a surge of rage.
“Ms. Jewell, I haven’t lost yet. Are you that certain of your victory?” she challenged, her voice tight with resentment and anger.
Calliope met her gaze. “I’m guessing you’re out of options. You don’t have any good cards left, do you? You’ve been hesitating for so long, which can only mean you’re about to lose p>
“Who says!” Blythe shot back, her face darkening.
“Just a guess,” Calliope replied with a faint, unbothered smile. Blythe seethed.
At the same time, Damien was on a video call with Silas Myers, his phone’s camera aimed at the card table. “Sir, don’t you worry,” he said reassuringly. “Mrs. Myers is more than capable. She won’t be taken advantage of anything, the ones playing against her are the ones at a disadvantage p>
This Blythe girl was just asking for trouble challenging his boss’s wife. The game had barely started, and her composure was already Shattered. If this continued, she was in for a brutal lesson. Mrs. Myers was about to school her so thoroughly she’d question her own
existence.

Damien wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. Mr. Myers was definitely the type to follow through on such a threat.

and I’m right here,” Damien said with
a nervous laugh. “Looks like she’s about to win again. That Ms. White is nothing compared to her our Mrs. Myers is a league of her own!
“Obviously,” Silas replied, his voice filled with pride.
Back at the table, Calliope was on the verge of victory. Blythe, sitting opposite her, had slowed her pace to a crawl. She knew she was going to lose, but she couldn’t bring herself to admit it, to accept defeat.
“You can stall all you want, but it’s over,” Calliope said, looking directly at Blythe. “A loss is a loss. If you’d just concede gracefully, people might actually respect you for
