The massive wall screen shifted. A complex stream of data and three-dimensional wireframe models filled the display, bright red warning indicators flashing along the bottom.
Isolde leaned over the console and pointed a manicured finger at a specific string of code buried within the data.
“Right there,” she said, her voice cutting cleanly through the hum of the servers. “The cooling algorithm has a 0.4-second delay. It’s out of sync with the fuel injection.”
The engineers stepped closer, frowning at the screen.

She didn’t touch the keyboard. Instead, she turned to face the lead engineer.
“Your core logic is trying to solve the heat problem reactively,” she explained, her tone crisp and academic. “You need to model the heat bloom predictively. I’ve already drafted the pseudocode for a new algorithm — it uses a predictive matrix based on fuel-flow telemetry. Send it to your team for compilation and simulation.”
She tapped her tablet. A file transfer notification appeared on the main console: pages of elegantly structured pseudocode, not a finished program, but the brilliant architectural blueprint for one.
The room held its breath.
On the wall screen, the lead engineer instructed his team to implement Isolde’s logic into a new simulation branch. The process took several minutes of compiling and testing, a tense silence pressing down over the lab.
Then the new simulation went live. The thruster model ignited.
The red warning lights vanished.
The entire diagnostic bar turned a solid, glowing green. The simulation held — perfectly stable.
Absolute silence fell over the lab. The engineers stared at the screen, their mouths slightly open.
Professor Nelson stepped forward. He studied the display for a long moment, then turned to look at Isolde. The hardness in his eyes softened into something rare: profound, unguarded respect.

He turned fully to face Isolde.
“The fellowship is yours,” Nelson said. “If you want it.”
Isolde straightened. Her heart hammered against her ribs, but this time it was pure, exhilarating adrenaline.
“I want it,” she said. “I want to lead the government satellite projects.”
“It requires board approval,” Nelson cautioned. “And processing the security clearances will take time.”
Isolde smiled. “I have plenty of time now.”
From the back of the group, Arland let out a quiet chuckle. “Welcome back, Ace.”
A rush of warmth spread through Isolde’s chest — a feeling she hadn’t experienced in five long years.
She was not Mrs. Lancaster here. She was not a trophy wife. She was Sophia. She was Isolde.
“We present our findings to the board next week,” Nelson said, crossing his arms. “You should be the one to give the briefing.”
