Daron slammed his hand flat against the table. The water glasses rattled.
“You’re a woman who got swept out of her house with the trash,” Daron spat. “What gives you the right to lecture me p>
The air in the room turned toxic. Arland placed his hands on the table, preparing to rise.
Isolde reached out and pressed her fingers over his wrist. She kept him seated.
“Right?” Isolde asked. “Carson Dynamics holds an official invitation to the ISSDC, just like you. In fact, our seeding rank is higher than yours p>
Daron lost the last of his composure. His face turned an ugly shade of purple.

“Who knows how you got that invitation?” Daron yelled. “I heard the CEO of Nexus just finalized his divorce. You just got divorced too. It’s easy to do the math p>
Grayson felt a surge of violent rage punch through his ribs. He gripped the edge of the table with his good left hand.
“Daron, that is enough,” Grayson snarled.
Daron ignored him entirely, focused on destroying Isolde.
“What? Did I hit a nerve?” Daron sneered. “Isolde, if your skills in bed are half as sharp as your mouth p>
Isolde picked up her crystal water glass, her fingers wrapping around its cool, heavy base. She didn’t throw it. Instead, in one fluid, terrifyingly controlled motion, she raised the glass and feigned a sharp throwing motion directly at Daron’s face.
Daron gasped. He didn’t register the feint — he saw the attack. He threw both hands up to shield his face and violently jerked backward in his chair.
The back legs caught on the thick carpet. The chair tipped. Daron flailed wildly before crashing onto his back with a heavy thud.
Isolde’s hand stopped mid-air. She calmly lowered the glass back to the table, the water inside barely sloshing. She had not spilled a single drop.
“It seems Mr. McKnight lacks both a functioning brain and basic equilibrium,” Isolde said quietly.
A few of the investors at the table let out low, muffled chuckles.
Daron scrambled to his feet, his suit jacket bunched around his shoulders, his face burning with supreme humiliation.

The heavy wooden doors of the private dining room suddenly burst open and slammed against the walls with a deafening crack.
A middle-aged man stumbled into the room. His clothes were torn and stained, his eyes bloodshot and wild.
It was Mr. Lee — a man who had once sat at tables like this. Now he looked like a feral animal.
His hands were wrapped around the handle of a large, industrial metal kettle. Thick white steam hissed from the spout.
“Belle Escobar!” Mr. Lee screamed, his voice ragged and shredded. “You liar! You ruined my entire life p>
Belle let out a piercing shriek and scrambled out of her chair, throwing herself behind Grayson.
