An hour later, Isolde sat at her desk. Her monitoring software pinged.
She opened the notification and studied Belle’s selfie — the triumphant smile, the crates of defective metal sitting proudly in Grayson’s factory.

Arland looked at the envelope. He didn’t touch it.

Arland let out a sudden, loud bark of laughter that startled a woman reading at the next table.

Arland stopped laughing. He leaned forward, his large frame suddenly imposing, and invaded Belle’s personal space until she took an involuntary half-step back.
