Richard’s smile didn’t waver. Despite losing weight, he stood there, solid and unwavering, protecting me. “I didn’t fight back last time because you claimed I wronged Claire. This time, I’ll fight with everything I’ve got, even if it means dragging you down with me.” My heart ached listening to them, but I couldn’t let my tears fall.
“Let me talk to her,” Claude insisted, knocking on my window.
Richard grabbed him. “And what right do you have to talk to her p>

That made Richard burst out laughing. “Get over yourself. Claire doesn’t need to settle for leftovers. Leave before I make you p>
It dawned on me then that Richard, even from jail, kept tabs on me, worried about my well-being.
Claude yelled, “Richard, I’ve supported her for ten years on behalf of the Hilton family. It’s time she repaid that debt p>
