Rain coughed and quickly grabbed her glass of water, taking a sip to recover. “Sanya, could you not drop a bombshell like that while I’m eating?” she said, half annoyed and half amused as she set her glass down.
Sanya shrugged, unbothered. “I’m just saying. Carla doesn’t strike me as someone who’d sit quietly after hearing something like that. You should be prepared p>
Rain sighed, her appetite momentarily forgotten. “Of course, I’ve thought about it. It’s been in the back of my mind ever since he woke up and mentioned Carla’s name instead of mine. But I won’t let it stop me. Xander is my husband, and I’ll make sure he remembers what we have or better yet, I’ll make him fall in love with me all over again p>
Sanya smirked, leaning back in her chair. “That’s my girl! Carla won’t know what hit her in case she will mess with you. You’ve already proven you can win him over, so this should be a piece of cake p>
Rain chuckled softly, shaking her head at her friend’s confidence. She quickly finished the rest of her meal, excused herself, and went upstairs. After brushing her teeth, she stood in front of the full-length mirror, studying her reflection.
She had never been this self-conscious before, but now she felt an overwhelming urge to always look her best whenever she went to see Alexander. She bit her lip thoughtfully.
“I should bring him something,” she muttered, a hint of determination in her voice. Without hesitation, she headed back downstairs, grabbed a ripe mango, and began preparing it. She carefully sliced both sides, scoring the flesh into small squares, just the way he liked it.
Rain added a handful of grapes to the plate before heading back upstairs. She knocked gently on the door.
“Come in,” Alexander’s voice called from inside.
She entered with a bright smile, holding the plate of fruit. “I thought you might want some fruit,” she said as she approached.
“You can put it on the bedside table, thank you,” Alexander replied, his tone neutral.
She placed the plate down but lingered nearby. “Do you need help moving around? I could help you stand and walk around the room if you’d like,” she offered.
“It’s fine, Rain. The medical team is here to assist with that,” he replied, his face blank and unreadable. Rain bit her inner cheek, determined not to let his cold demeanor discourage her.
Gathering her courage, she asked, “How about eating? Would you let me help you with that instead p>
There was a moment of silence as Alexander appeared to consider her suggestion. Finally, he gave a slight nod. “Alright p>
Her face lit up with excitement, and she quickly grabbed the plate, sitting beside him to begin feeding him. As before, he ate the mango slices first, savoring them quietly.
After finishing the last slice, he glanced at her and said, “I think I can feed myself now.” He reached for a grape and popped it into his mouth.
“Is it sweet?” Rain asked, her voice filled with curiosity.
Alexander nodded. “Yeah, try it p>
Rain’s lips curved into a mischievous smile. “Alright, I’ll have a taste then p>
Instead of reaching for a grape on the plate, she leaned closer and pressed her lips against his, catching him completely off guard. She deepened the kiss, her tongue sliding into his mouth to taste the lingering sweetness of the grape.
When she pulled back, her eyes sparkled with playful delight. “It’s good,” she said with a hum, as though nothing unusual had happened.
Alexander’s face turned crimson, his ears burning as he stared at her, clearly flustered. His usual stoicism was momentarily shattered.
Feigning innocence, Rain added with a teasing smile, “I’m sorry. I forgot, that’s how you used to taste the food I was eating. I thought copying the way you used to do it might help jog your memory p>
She bit back a chuckle, relishing the rare sight of him completely at a loss for words.
At Cartier Mansion
Carla’s face lit up with excitement as the news reached her, Alexander was awake. She was having lunch with her family when her father mentioned it casually, almost as if it were just another update.
“Do you think we can visit him now?” her mother delicately asked, setting her glass down.
Her father frowned, looking at her mother with concern. “Are you sure you’re feeling better? Maybe you should rest a bit more p>
Carla sighed inwardly, though she kept a composed expression. She was relieved that whatever drug she had given her mother hadn’t caused serious harm. The doctor had attributed her mother’s fainting to overfatigue, citing her hectic schedule of campaign appearances, charity work, and orphanage visits as the likely culprits.
“I’m fine, really,” her mother said reassuringly, although her voice still carried a hint of weariness. “Alexander waking up is such wonderful news. I’d like to see him and express my relief in person p>
Carla took a sip of her drink, her mind whirling with plans. She couldn’t afford any setbacks now, not with Alexander awake. If her mother wanted to visit, it would be the perfect opportunity to assess the situation.
“Let’s wait a little while,” Carla suggested with a sweet smile, feigning concern. “Alexander just woke up. I’m sure his family wants to spend some time with him first. We wouldn’t want to overwhelm him p>
Her mother nodded thoughtfully. “You’re right, dear. It’s better to give him some space to recover p>
“Exactly,” Carla said, her tone soothing and agreeable. But inside, she was already strategizing. She couldn’t let this moment slip through her fingers. Alexander was awake, and that meant her carefully laid plans needed immediate adjustments.
Carla could feel her father’s gaze lingering on her, scrutinizing her every move. She knew exactly what he was thinking. The last time she suggested visiting Alexander in the hospital, he’d outright refused, claiming it wasn’t the right time. But Carla knew better, it wasn’t about timing; it was about her.
She took a steadying breath, masking her annoyance with a serene expression. “I’ve already apologized to him,” she said calmly, folding her hands neatly on the table. “But I think it’s important I see Rain as well and show my sincerity p>
Her mother smiled approvingly. “That’s good, dear. It’s only right to clear the air. Let me call Rock and see if we can arrange a visit this week p>
Carla nodded, feigning patience, but inside, excitement buzzed through her veins. Alexander couldn’t remember his recent memories? It was almost too good to be true. It seemed like fate, or perhaps heaven itself, was finally tipping the scales in her favor.
Her mind raced as her mother continued to talk about setting up the visit. This was her chance to step back into Alexander’s life.
