“The dinner’s ready, and William is close,” she informed him. “Father Rock and Aunt Vernice are on their way too. They’ll be here any moment. Uncle Ben and Aunt Melanie are staying overnight in Malibu, so they won’t return until tomorrow p>
Alexander gave her a nod, acknowledging the update. Just as Sanya was about to head back to the kitchen, he called out, “What about Rain p>
Sanya paused, turning back to him. “Oh, she messaged me earlier. She said she’d be late. Apparently, there’s a company dinner and karaoke night p>
Alexander frowned at the news, his mind immediately jumping to conclusions. ’Is she drinking?’ he wondered.
His hand tightened around his phone as he recalled the files he had on Rain’s colleagues in the prosecution office. He didn’t entirely understand why he had those files in the first place, perhaps a precaution.
Given the incidents they’d endured, it wasn’t unreasonable. William and Dion had provided him with detailed accounts of the danger Rain had been in, and Rain herself had answered all his questions honestly, piecing together the events he couldn’t remember.
At this point, he knew even the smallest details about Rain’s life and their past together, yet the gaps in his memory still left him unsettled. He couldn’t help but feel a surge of protectiveness at the thought of her out at a late dinner.
As dinner progressed, Alexander found himself zoning out, his gaze repeatedly drifting to the empty seat beside him. Rain’s absence at the table was glaring, she would usually be the one fussing over his plate, piling on extra meat and vegetables while encouraging him to eat more.

Alexander nodded. “Yes, he cleared me. I’m planning to go back to work soon p>
“Really?” William’s face lit up, his enthusiasm almost childlike.
Alexander raised an eyebrow, smirking slightly. “You seem awfully happy about that, William. Just so you know, I said I’m coming back, but that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook. I’ve lost five years of memories, you’ll need to guide me through everything p>
William’s excitement waned, and he let out an exaggerated pout. “But Dion is already doing that for you! Honestly, he’s way better at it than I am p>
“But you’re the one who said you’d step up and take on the business just to get me to wake up,” Alexander reminded his tone carrying a hint of teasing. While he’d been in a coma, he’d vaguely heard voices, including William’s, making heartfelt pleas.
William froze mid-chew, eyes wide. “Wait, you heard that p>
Alexander smirked, stabbing a piece of meat with his fork. “Of course. Even in a coma, I could hear voices. At the time, I thought it was a dream, but I guess it wasn’t p>

William groaned, slumping back in his chair. “Fine!” he muttered, clearly defeated. He ran a hand through his hair in frustration, leaning back as if to signal his surrender to the discussion at hand.
After a brief silence, William shifted in his seat and suddenly changed the topic. “I wonder what time sister-in-law will come back,” he mused, a hint of curiosity in his voice.
Sanya, ever the chatterbox, jumped in. “Oh, I’m sure Rain is enjoying herself right now. It’s her first day back at work, so she’s probably drinking and having fun p>
