Chapter 422
Carla’s case was assigned to Prosecutor Karl Brown, and Rain closely coordinated with him through Matt, his brother. She was making sure all valid and necessary pieces of evidence were properly submitted against Carla.
Right now, she had a short break and walked to her window, where she could see a swarm of reporters and media personnel from various global news stations, not just from their country, waiting to interview the prosecution team and even the judge handling the case.
Rain let out a deep sigh. It was a highly sensitive case that set the whole world ablaze because Carla was not just a well-known celebrity in their country but also internationally.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts, and Megan entered with some files. She placed them on the table before walking over to the window to join Rain.
“This is chaos… I wonder how the Cartiers and the president’s office will handle this situation. Even the internet is burning with comments and opinions on this,” Megan commented with a sigh.
Rain had seen and read some of the discussions. Unfortunately, Carla still had loyal supporters insisting their idol was framed. Some claimed the videos were fake, while others even dismissed them as AI-generated.
“Then the president… everyone is so worried. A lot has happened, and I hope everything will be sorted out soon,” Megan continued. She then turned to Rain, grabbed her hand, and held it firmly.
“I’ve known you for a year, and in that time, I’ve seen what a good and just person you are, Rain. So stay strong despite the negative comments. We are all here to back you up, and we’ll assist in every way we can to prove that you’re in the right and that you and the Lancasters are victims in all of this,” Megan said with a reassuring smile.
Rain smiled at her friend and replied, “Thank you, Megan. I just hope no harm befalls my family and that this will be wrapped up soon. Carla is a very dangerous woman who hides behind her background to carry out her dirty work. She’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” Rain boldly stated.
Both she and Megan were startled when the door swung open and Matt quickly reported, “There was a riot in prison, and Rico was one of the people they attacked. Luckily, we have men inside, and he was stabbed, but not in any vital organs p>
Rain’s face darkened. “Someone is still helping Carla. Killing Rico is the goal, as expected, since he’s a key witness in all of this. They’ll try to eliminate him before the trial begins. We have to strengthen security around him. He needs a separate and private cell. Even his meals must be secured,” she said through gritted teeth.
“I’ll inform Brandon,” Matt said before quickly leaving to take care of it.
Meanwhile, Rain suddenly felt a sharp pain in her belly, making her cringe. Megan quickly assisted her to sit down. “I think you should stop coming to work for now. It’s too stressful, especially with all the eyes on you. We can’t stop the gossip from spreading, and that’s enough stress already on top of Carla’s case. You should head home and let Prosecutor Wayne handle the rest of your case. I’m here now, so Marlon and I will work harder to assist him with everything,” Megan suggested with a worried expression.
Rain chuckled and teasingly said, “Hmm, you just want more time with Henry, don’t you p>
She wanted to lighten the mood and tease her friend since she had noticed how Megan was practically putting a fence around Henry. She remembered Megan’s words when she once asked her about entering a relationship.
Megan, being a bold woman, had said she would just know when the right person came along. And when she found him, she would absolutely pursue him, no matter what. It was obvious she had set her sights on Henry.
Megan’s face reddened, but she didn’t dodge or deny the teasing. Instead, she smirked and said, “It’s like hitting two birds with one stone, helping you and the baby rest while also working on winning my future man p>
Rain simply chuckled as she stood up and said, “The gossip doesn’t affect me at all. But what affects me is hearing bad news, like what Matt reported a while ago. It’s inevitable, Megan, since I need updates on what’s happening. Stop worrying about me. I prefer coming to the office and working instead of staying inside the house and waiting for any updates p>
“Alright then, but just go easy on things. I’ll leave you now,” Megan commented, and Rain nodded. She started reviewing the files, and soon time flew by. She received Alexander’s message and smiled, quickly wrapping up things to meet him in the basement parking lot.
She smiled sweetly when she saw Alexander standing near the exit door, talking to the security guard. He quickly approached her the moment she stepped out of the elevator. Rain tiptoed slightly and gave him a peck on the lips, and Alexander instantly reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers.
It had become their routine, and even the guards were used to it.
“What were you talking about with the guard?” she curiously asked as they entered the car.
“I’m just making sure they have strict security in the building. I also inquired if there was anything suspicious. You see, the one monitoring the basement parking where you go in and out is one of our men. Although Carla is in prison, we’re not sure about the extent of her network underground. She’s been supporting and financing Rico, and there’s a possibility that he’s not the only one p>
Rain nodded in agreement. As they drove through the streets, Alexander suddenly said, “By the way, Father wants us to go to Lamey now, so we’ll head straight to the airport and board our private aircraft p>
“To Lamey?” she questioned.
Alexander nodded and said, “It’s sudden, and he said it’s urgent that I bring you there to see Uncle Arlan and Aunty Summer p>
Rain furrowed her brow and asked, “Didn’t he tell you why p>
Alexander took a deep breath before responding, “He didn’t say anything except that Aunt Summer was poisoned, and that’s why she’s in a coma right now. It was Carla’s doing. He said he’d explain things further in person, but for now, we need to fly to Lamey as soon as we can p>
