“I remember that little girl kept complaining about how heavy I was,” Alexander said with a grin. “She had a mole on the back of her earlobe. I remember it clearly because I could see it while she was carrying me on her back p>
“I’m sure Carla has that mole!” Alyssa remarked confidently.
“I’m sure she doesn’t,” Sanya shot back, her voice firm. “She was the first one to get out of the conservatory. She was saving herself, not anyone else p>
Arlan stood up, his face darkening with anger. “I think this has gone far enough. I won’t sit here and watch my daughter be embarrassed like this. We should p>
But he was interrupted by Alexander’s calm, steady voice, as he turned to Carla. “Carla, tell me… where did you find me? Can you describe where I was?” His eyes locked onto hers, and the room went silent.
“I Carla murmured, her voice faltering.
“Yes, tell Xander the exact details of how you saved him. I’m sure you can’t because you’re not the one who truly saved him!” Sanya insisted.
“Stop it! I’m the one who saved him! It’s just… I don’t remember clearly. It was all a blur,” Carla stammered.
“Sis, you just need to show them your mole!” Alyssa exclaimed, standing up and moving toward Carla.
But Carla quickly covered her ears, her face flushed with anger. “Don’t touch me, Alyssa!” she snapped, her voice rising in frustration.
“This is enough,” Mrs. Summer said, standing up, her voice filled with frustration. “We’re not going to stand here and watch our daughter be humiliated like this.” She turned to Carla and added, “Get up now, dear, and let’s go p>
But Carla didn’t budge. She stared at Alexander, her voice pleading. “Believe me, Xander. It was me who really saved you. It’s just… the smoke was so thick, and I was in such a panic that I can’t recall exactly where I found you p>
Alexander shook his head. “You can’t tell me because you weren’t the one who saved me, Carla. The girl who saved me that day had her hair tied back in a bun, and her small mole behind her ear was the last thing I saw before I passed out, as she struggled to carry me out p>
Alexander took a deep breath, his gaze steady as he spoke. “You can’t show your ears to Alyssa because you don’t have that mole behind your ear, Carla. You’re not the one who truly saved me… you’ve been pretending from the start p>
The room fell silent as his words hung in the air, heavy with truth.
“Wait… so you’ve known all along it wasn’t Carla who saved you?” William asked, astonished.
Alexander nodded. “Yes. Carla doesn’t have that mole. I hoped she’d eventually admit the truth, but she continued this story p>
He turned back to Carla, his gaze resolute. “I asked you earlier not to bring this up again. I wanted to spare you the embarrassment of exposing this lie. But you’ve given me no choice, Carla p>
The silence in the room was suffocating, the weight of the revelation settling over everyone. “This Alyssa murmured, her eyes flickering between Carla and Rain. “So what Sanya said is true? That it was Rain who saved you p>
Rain stiffened in her seat, startled by the sudden voice behind her. “Ah-ha!” William exclaimed, his grin widening as he leaned forward. “So that’s the proof, right there p>
With her hair pulled back in a ponytail, the small mole behind Rain’s ear was now plainly visible, marking her as the one who had carried Alexander out of the fire.
The realization hit everyone, and Rain felt a mix of relief and unease flood through her. She was the one who had saved him, just as she clearly remembered complaining all the while about how heavy he was.
Rain’s cheeks reddened further as everyone’s attention turned to her, and Alexander couldn’t help a faint smile seeing her reaction.
He reached for her hand, squeezing it gently. “I’m here because of you, Rain. And I won’t forget that p>
“Holy crap! So it was really you!” William exaggerated. He turned to Alexander, curiosity written all over his face. “When did you figure this out p>
Alexander took a deep breath, responding quietly, “Just recently p>
All eyes turned to Carla, and Rain could see her face flush with a mixture of anger and humiliation. Her jaw clenched, and her hands trembled as she balled them into fists, clearly struggling to keep her composure.
“How dare you all gang up on me like this,” Carla hissed, her voice low but simmering with fury.
“No one’s ganging up on you, Carla, “William replied firmly. “But you keep insisting you saved Alexander when that’s clearly not the case p>
Carla’s face flushed as she struggled to find the right words. Her mouth opened, but nothing came out.
After a moment, she abruptly pushed her chair back and left the room, her heels clicking sharply as she walked out. Mrs. Summer gave everyone an apologetic look and quickly followed after her.
Arlan, looking visibly uncomfortable, murmured, “I… I don’t know what to say p>
Father Rock approached him, giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. “These things happen, Arlan. We can’t control every choice our children make p>
“I’m sorry, Rock. I didn’t realize Arlan began, his voice low.
Rock shook his head. “There’s no need to apologize. I’m just relieved that everything is out in the open. Please let Carla know we hold no grudges, but she needs to move on. Alexander’s happy now, and it’s time she finds her own happiness p>
With a heavy sigh, Arlan turned to Alexander, offering a final, apologetic glance before quickly following after Carla.
Once they left, William still wasn’t satisfied. “Come on, brother, just when did you figure out that Rain was the one who saved you p>
Alexander’s expression softened. “This past Saturday,” he replied simply.
“How did you find out?” William pondered. “I mean, the mole’s not big, and you’d only see it if you look closely. Besides, sister-in-law always has her hair down. Last Saturday, her hair was down too, covering the back of her ears p>
