Chapter 467
(Author’s POV)
“RUNNNNNN Denver screamed as he jumped from behind the tree trunk. He started sprinting in the opposite direction, trying to attract the wolf’s attention. While he was running, he slashed his hand with a tree branch he had picked up earlier.
Amelia, for a moment, remained dead still. She couldn’t comprehend what had just happened, her eyes bloodshot. After a second or two, when she came to her senses, she heard Denver’s voice again, “AMELIA~ You have to run and call for help. GOOOO~~~ Lia, go p>
Then, without waiting, Amelia dashed outside in search of somebody, anybody who could help. As she ran, tears mixed with snot streamed down her face, staining her cheeks and chin. While wiping it off with her sleeve, she sprinted hard as her life depended on it. By no means was she going to let anything happen to Denver.
After running for just a few minutes, Amelia finally saw some scattered, flickering lights. She darted in that direction and was met with none other than her sister, Vienna.
“LIA~? Where have you been? I was looking for you all over the place. And what is~ When Vienna saw her sister in such a dishevelled state, she was stunned.
“Sister Ena, *sobbing* he~ he is in~ danger~… he is~~ dan~ger,” Amelia said, her broken sobs making it unclear what she was saying.
“Lia, calm down first. Calm down and then speak,” Vienna rubbed her back and asked, “Now, tell us what happened p>
Amelia, after getting a moment, spoke, “Sister, Denver~… he is in danger. A wolf was after me. He jumped~ save me~… and now it is chasing after him. Please~… save him, sister. Save him.” She broke down once again, pleading.
Vienna’s eyes flickered with something unreadable. But because it was a bit dark, no one noticed anything. The people with her, probably her college friends, assured Amelia, “Don’t worry, we will find your friend. I am sure he is going to be safe and sound p>
Everyone geared up as Amelia led the way toward where she and Denver were earlier. “DENVER~ DENVER~ she called out while searching for him. Others followed suit.
All the while they were searching, her mind remained stuck on the scene where he kissed her, the vision where she slapped him and the disappointment that followed after. Despite that, he didn’t think for even a moment and leapt into harm’s way to keep her safe.
After a long while of shouting his name out and searching, they finally got a lead, a ghastly one. There was a huge stain of trailing blood. When Amelia saw it, she felt her own blood run cold. With her hand covering her mouth, she didn’t wait for anyone else and started in the said direction with hurried footsteps.
The farther she went, the more she was scared as they were nearing a cliff.
A few meters away, she saw a figure lying on the dirty, muddy floor at the edge of the cliff. The person was lying face down, covered in crimson. He wasn’t moving at all; it seemed like he was as good as dead. Amelia’s mind spiralled as she dashed towards him. When she was just a few inches away, the smell of blood hit her like a tidal wave. It was that intense.
Amelia crouched down, turned his body to face him. Her body was shivering violently.
A roaring, growling sound left her mouth as she had his face close to her bosom, “NOOOOO~ DENVER. You cannot, you cannot die. Please~ please~… please~ You cannot die like that. I haven’t even told you how I feel. No, please, god, pleaseeeeeeee~ Denver, wake up.” She bawled her eyes out. “Denver, wake up. Wake up and listen to my answer. Denver Brooks, I like you. Plea~se~ now~ You have to wake up.” At this point, she was a sobbing mess.
Vienna and her friends saw the scene from behind. It was truly heartbreaking.
“Uggghhhh~ Do you, Lia?” Denver mouthed, his voice throaty, barely above a whisper.
Amelia’s eyes shot up as she looked at him. His blood-covered, otherwise pale face bore a sly smile. Without thinking twice, she hugged him, wailing and crying simultaneously, “Denver~ You are alive. Thank god~ You are alive. I thought~… I thought I lost you p>
“I am not that weak,” he mumbled with great difficulty. “The wolf~ he didn’t stand a chance against me,” his smile turned weak, as he tried to assure Amelia. After that, he passed out.
Soon after that, he was transported to the hospital. Amelia and Ms. Doull went with him in the ambulance.
The school authorities halted all activities as well. Vienna also went to the hospital. There was something complicated that was brewing inside her.
In the hospital, after about an hour and a half, Denver woke up. He had sustained quite a few abrasions and contusions. Avulsions occurred in his tendons and ligaments as well. The doctor had told them, “Though nothing is life-threatening, the patient needs to be admitted for at least three weeks for proper healing and recovery p>
Amelia was really sentimental. Janet gave them a bit of space, taking Vienna out with her. Denver, when he saw her like that, only smiled and asked, “So, what you said then, does it still apply p>
“What did I say?” Amelia asked while sniffling.
“You like me~ he said bluntly. “That part. You do right p>
Amelia didn’t say anything; her face turned beetroot red. From that day on, the two of them started dating. Of course, secretly.
For her, their relationship was like spring flowers blooming in the harsh, cold winter. Dreamy, soothing, tranquil. As time passed on, her infatuation turned into passionate, desperate love for Denver. Whether she was with or without him, she missed him deeply. She adored him with her heart.
For him, she was ready to fight the world. She was ready to let go of anything.
They say, when in love, people view everything with rose tinted glasses. That’s what was happening with Amelia.
Soon, her birthday came. On that day, Denver had promised to fulfil her wish and finally be one with her. It was supposed to be her birthday present, and Amelia was looking forward to it, hopelessly. But~ p>
