Sirens wailed in the distance, growing closer. The club manager had called the police the moment Kieran walked in.
Kieran looked down at the bloodied wreck of a man beneath him. Confusion and rage wrestled behind his eyes. If Babe hadn’t married her — then who had?

Police officers swarmed the room, guns drawn.

Kieran stood slowly. He wiped the blood — Babe’s blood — from his knuckles. He looked at the officers with undisguised contempt.
“He fell,” Kieran said, panting.
“Cuff him,” the sergeant ordered.
As they slammed Kieran against the wall and clicked the metal cuffs around his wrists, someone in the corner held up a phone. The red recording light blinked steadily.
Within ten minutes, the video was on Twitter. TechCEOgoesPsycho.
Within twenty, Douglas Tech stock dropped 8% in after-hours trading.
Kieran sat in the back of the squad car, watching the city lights blur past the window. He felt no remorse. He felt righteous. He had fought for her — a knight in shining armor, even if the dragon had turned out to be a confused drunk.
I’m coming, Jocelyn. Just wait.
The Wolfe Estate looked ominous under the grey sky. Rain lashed against the windows of the Rolls-Royce as it pulled up to the front steps.
Jocelyn checked her phone. Twenty missed calls from Elouise. Five from Robert.
“Are you ready?” Gaston asked. He was sitting beside her, calm as ever.
“No,” Jocelyn said. “But I have to do this p>
“I’ll wait here,” Gaston said. “This is your fight. But if you’re not out in thirty minutes, I’m coming in p>
Jocelyn nodded. She stepped out into the rain and opened her umbrella.
She walked through the front door. The house felt different now. It didn’t feel like a prison. It felt like a battlefield she had already won.
Elouise was waiting in the foyer. She looked frantic — hair disheveled, makeup smeared.
“You!” Elouise shrieked. She rushed forward.

The sound echoed through the high ceilings. Jocelyn’s head snapped to the side. Her cheek stung with a sharp, hot pain. She tasted copper.
She didn’t cry. She didn’t flinch. She turned her head back slowly to face her mother.
“You ungrateful little wretch!” Elouise screamed. “Look what you’ve done! Kieran is in jail! He beat Babe Vincent half to death because of you p>
Robert appeared from the living room, his face purple. “The Vincent deal is dead! They’re suing us for emotional distress! They’re pulling the logistics contract p>
“Wolfe Hotel shares tanked this morning!” Elouise yelled. “We’re ruined! And it’s all your fault because you couldn’t just stay with Kieran p>
