“Understood,” Gaston replied. His voice was so flat and calm it bordered on unnatural.
The convoy turned off the main highway and entered the private two-lane road flanked by massive, century-old oak trees. The dense canopy blocked out the sun, plunging the interior of the car into deep shadow.
In the woods, Viper stopped breathing.

He could hear the low, synchronized rumble of twelve V12 engines echoing through the trees. He raised his binoculars. Through a gap in the autumn foliage, he spotted the lead car, its grille adorned with a subtle white floral wreath.
Two miles. Viper’s thumb hovered directly over the bright red button on the detonator, the hard plastic edge digging into his skin.
One mile. The lead car hit a small dip in the asphalt, its heavy suspension absorbing the impact with a smooth, barely perceptible bounce.
Viper’s heart hammered so violently against his ribs he thought they might crack. The metallic taste of adrenaline flooded his mouth.
Inside the car, just as they entered the final straight stretch of road, Gaston reached out and pressed a silver button on the center console.
The thick bulletproof sound partition glided slowly upward from behind the driver’s seat, sealing the rear cabin into an absolute, airtight, soundproof vault.

Gaston turned his head and looked down at her. Slowly, a terrifying, ruthlessly cold smile spread across his lips.

He raised both large hands and pressed them firmly over Jocelyn’s ears, pulling her face tightly into his chest.
In the woods, Viper watched the lead car roll perfectly into the center of his crosshairs.
“Burn in hell,” Viper muttered coldly.
He jammed his thumb down onto the red button with all his strength.
The small LED light on the detonator flashed a brilliant, solid red. The radio signal tore through the air at the speed of light, connecting directly with the receiver bolted beneath the Rolls-Royce.
Time froze. Viper kept his eyes wide open, bracing for the shockwave, waiting for the deafening roar of the explosion to tear the forest apart.
One second passed. Then two. Then three.
The deafening roar never came. There was no shockwave. There was no fire.
The heavy black Rolls-Royce Phantom glided smoothly through the intersection, its tires humming quietly against the asphalt, completely intact. It continued toward the estate gates without missing a beat.
