Leighton kept his eyes on the road. He noticed the wind blowing Zora’s hair around and rolled up the window.
The car slowly grew warm and cozy.
“Maya lives with her mom only,” Zora said. “She’s grown up in a single-parent household. She’s super smart, and our school specially recruited her p>
Zora talked openly about everything. Maya had never hidden anything from her.
“What about her dad?” Leighton asked.
All he heard was how great Maya was, and it was clear she was an amazing girl.
