Chapter 109 A Night of Calm Sleep
Silence settled over the room once more.
Leighton said nothing, simply letting the gentle pressure brush over his head.

Whether it truly helped or not, his mind felt light and clear, the heavy fog weighing on him lifting slightly.
“You don’t sleep well. I’ll mix you a calming herbal tonic next time-drink it when your mind feels restless.
“I made two extra herbal sachets for you too; I’ll give them to you in a bit p>
Zora’s tone stayed calm and even, her hands never pausing as she kept up the steady pressure.
Leighton’s tight fingers slowly relaxed, falling loosely at his sides.

A low, muffled reply came.
Zora glanced down and found he had drifted his eyes shut.
She fell silent as well, continuing to massage his temples and shoulders for a while longer, watching as he slipped into peaceful sleep.
Her legs had gone numb from standing. She stood slowly, rubbed her calves, then picked up the throw blanket from the sofa and draped it gently over him.
She pulled the small herbal sachets out of her backpack and set them beside his head.
Grabbing her bag, she slipped off her shoes and held them in her hand-he was an extremely light sleeper, and even the softest noise might wake him.
Zora moved quietly to the entryway, slipped her shoes back on, and opened the door. She glanced back twice at the sleeping man on the sofa to make sure he rested soundly, then closed the door softly behind her.
She took the elevator downstairs and headed back to her own place.
The next morning, Zora left early for school.
Meanwhile, on the nineteenth floor, a sharp ringtone cut through the stillness of the quiet
apartment.

Harsh sunlight pricked at his eyes.
The man on the sofa lifted a hand instinctively to shield his gaze.
His phone vibrated relentlessly on the coffee table, ringing over and over again.
Leighton knitted his brows tightly.
It only took a second for him to sense something off. He rolled upright from the sofa, the thin blanket sliding off his chest.
The living room was empty, not a soul in sight.
It felt almost as if the quiet, thoughtful girl from last night had never been there at all.
The phone kept ringing. Leighton leaned forward to pick it up; it was his assistant calling.
“Hello.” His voice carried a deep, husky warmth he hadn’t heard in ages, thick with the haze of restful sleep.
“Sir, you had a hypnosis appointment with the doctor last night. He said you never showed up. Is everything alright on your end?” Tristan asked, clearly worried.
Tristan had been anxious about his boss burning himself out. They’d been out of town on a business trip the past few days, and Leighton hadn’t gotten proper rest at all. Fearing he’d push himself to exhaustion, Tristan had booked the hypnosis session in the hope it would let him relax.
Medication had long stopped working for Leighton’s insomnia. Even a doctor’s hypnosis took immense effort, failing time after time before it could barely lull him into a short, fitful nap.
“I forgot. Nothing’s wrong,” Leighton replied flatly, his handsome face showing no obvious
emotion.
“Sir, your voice sounds off… It’s like you’ve slept for ages. Tristan caught the odd lilt in his tone -lazy, soft, and relaxed, nothing like his usual weary, distant drawl.
It sounded exactly like someone who’d just woken from a deep, peaceful sleep.
“If you have nothing better to do, notify the R&D department of a meeting in one hour
Leighton ended the call.
He tossed the phone onto the sofa, then thought over Tristan’s words about him sleeping for a long stretch. He glanced at the unlocked screen to check the time.
7:45 am.

It was already the next morning.
He had fallen asleep around eight the previous evening and slept straight through until now.
Not once had he woken up-no nightmares haunted his mind, no muddled, restless dreams clouded his thoughts. He had simply drifted into natural, undisturbed slumber…

Aside from being knocked unconscious as a child, he hadn’t slept so long and soundly in over a decade.
When he woke, his head didn’t throb, and his body held none of that heavy, drained fatigue.
For the first time in years, he felt fully refreshed and clear-headed.
Leighton lowered his gaze as memories of the night trickled back. He vaguely recalled a soft, gentle voice murmuring quietly beside his ear, quiet enough to lock away all his bloody, haunting memories. With only that warm, soft tone lingering in his mind, he had drifted off to sleep before he knew it.
He had only agreed to let Zora massage him last night out of kindness, not wanting to turn her down and hurt her feelings. Deep down, he hadn’t held any real hope it would help his insomnia.
Suddenly, he spotted the two small herbal sachets resting on the edge of the sofa behind him. He picked them up and found a folded note tucked underneath.
“I left two extra herbal sachets for you. Keep one wherever you spend most of your time, so you won’t have to worry about forgetting to bring them along p>
“I’ll replace these with fresh ones every little while. Your insomnia is quite severe and will take time to heal fully. The sachets can only ease your symptoms slightly. I’ll make time to prepare a calming herbal tonic for you soon p>
“Thank you for dinner last night p>
He stared at the neat, delicate handwriting on the note. The script was beautifully crafted, and he could easily picture the young girl kneeling quietly, writing each word slowly and carefully.
The sachets in his palm were brand new, clearly freshly made. They carried a soft, subtle herbal fragrance, richer and gentler than the last set, soothing just to breathe in.
