“Mom!” Wendy let out a shrill cry. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she stepped forward, reaching to grab Opal’s clothes.
“Wendy! Get help if you’ve lost your mind! Our family owes you nothing. Keep this up, and the Knox family might not even stay in business!” Floyd shouted sharply.
When his loved ones were threatened, Floyd’s face turned cold, and he looked at Wendy with no warmth left. She was no longer family to them.
Wendy flinched at his stern tone. Then his words pushed her over the edge, and she screamed, “You can’t do this to me p>
“She won’t listen to reason. Let’s end this here. From today on, our family will have nothing more to do with her. All of you, stay out of her affairs too,” Opal said to others, pushing down the ache in her chest.
She had softened a little at first, after sharing decades of life with Wendy, but now all her hope
was gone.

Opal held Floyd’s arm and told the boys to follow her out. They would never meet with Wendy again.

“You’re treating me like this all because of Zora! What spell has she cast on you? She’s tricked every single one of you! She only stuck around to climb the social ladder, and now she’s latched onto Leighton p>
Wendy blocked their path as they tried to leave. She blamed Zora for ruining everything she had. She wanted to drag Zora over and make her give back what she had lost.
“I should never have let her come back from the countryside. She should have stayed there forever! This is all her fault! Back when she was born, I should have ended her right then. None of this would have happened p>
Hatred for Zora poured out of her as she stood in their way. Her words made every member of the Marlow family look grim.
“Wendy, do you still think Zora is to blame for everything?” Jensen looked down at the unhinged woman.
“Of course it’s her fault! She said she almost died as a baby. She should have died back then! None of our troubles would exist if she had!” Wendy ranted wildly.

Jensen pulled out his phone and held it up. Wendy’s eyes widened the second she saw the video on the screen. It was the surveillance footage Zora had sent him before, showing Wayne with another woman.
A soft, coquettish voice played from the speaker.
Wayne’s voice followed right after, one Wendy knew all too well.
The two people on screen held each other tightly. Wayne’s hands wandered over the woman’s body. The sight made Wendy’s blood boil. She could not believe Wayne was cheating on her.
It explained why he had never touched her after Zora was born. He had told her he was impotent, and she had loved him too much to complain.
As the years passed, she had stopped thinking about such things entirely. She never imagined he would betray her.
She suddenly remembered how late Wayne had been coming home lately, and the strange perfume that always lingered on his clothes. He had lied and said it was just from work events.
Wendy’s face turned as pale as paper. She dug her fingernails deep into her palms and bit her lip hard.
Then the next lines from the video hit her like a ton of bricks.

Wendy felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
