Walter watched Garrett’s movements, feeling nervous.
Zora finally understood. Garrett and Leighton must have sorted out everything.
The father and son locked eyes for a second. Both of them turned their heads at the exact same time after hearing Walter’s over-the-top tone.
“Do you want to spend your birthday at Pierce Manor this year?” Garrett asked.
“You’re stuck in bed, yet you’re still worrying about my birthday p>
Honestly, no one could blame Leighton for bickering with his dad.
Garrett was laid up in the hospital, but his mind was still on Leighton’s birthday.
The doctor told him he needed at least six months of quiet rest to recover.
A birthday party would bring lots of noise and chaos to the house.

Garrett refused to back down.
He only needed to rest, not stay motionless.

Leighton had gone overseas when he was 21. He stayed abroad for two years and only came back half a year ago.
He hadn’t spent a single birthday at Pierce Manor since he left the country.
Now that he was finally home, Garrett badly wanted him to have a family birthday.
Now that their misunderstanding was gone, Garrett dropped his strict dad act. He acted just like a stubborn old man.

“Zora’s coming too,” he said, grinning warmly.

“It’s settled, then. We’ll have the party at Pierce Manor p>
“Perfect. Celine and I will clear our schedules. We’ll help set everything up. It’s been so long since Leighton had a proper birthday.” Finn smiled.
“We’ll make it super lively and festive p>
“I remember Mr. Leighton Pierce loved balloons when he was little. We’ll get tons of them p>
“We need a cake too! Should we get a fancy one or a simple one? Hmm, I’ll message the pastry chef later to decide p>

Zora sat straight with her hands on her knees, listening to everyone plan his birthday nonstop.

The seating arrangement felt weird, but Zora couldn’t figure out why.

Leighton had always had everything growing up. He never had any special things he wanted.
He never cared much about birthday parties, but his siblings loved planning them for him. They only got one chance a year to celebrate their little brother, so they always wanted it to be perfect.
“That doesn’t seem right.” Zora hesitated.
She thought the birthday person should get to choose everything they liked.
She’d had a terrible birthday once, so she thought it should be all about what Leighton wanted.
She didn’t get why Celine was asking her instead of Leighton.

Celine smiled brightly and turned to Leighton.
