Chapter 892

Woo-oop. Woo-oop.

Sirens. Blue and red lights strobed through the cracks in the container door.

The bald man froze. “Police?” He looked at his two subordinates. “Did you secure the perimeter?”

“We jammed the signals!” one of the mercenaries shouted, panic rising in his voice. “They shouldn’t be here!”

“It’s a bust,” the bald man snarled. “Kill the kid. We leave.”

One of the mercenaries raised his rifle and aimed at Parker’s head.

Parker closed his eyes, bracing for the end.

CLANG.

Something heavy struck the metal roof of the container.

A second later, the rusted skylight hatch burst open. A canister dropped through, hissing violently, spewing thick white smoke.

“Gas!” the bald man yelled, coughing.

Victoria dropped through the smoke like an avenging angel, landing in a crouch with a pistol in each hand.

Bang-bang.

The mercenary aiming at Parker crumpled, two shots in the chest.

Bang.

The second spun away, clutching his shoulder.

The bald man roared and lunged at Victoria with his knife.

Victoria didn’t flinch. She sidestepped, seized his wrist, and used his own momentum to drive him face-first into the metal wall. The sound of his nose breaking was sickeningly loud.

“Clear!” Victoria shouted.

Alistair kicked the main doors open. He and Skye rushed in, weapons raised.

The smoke was thick and acrid. Skye coughed, her eyes watering. She found Parker slumped in the chair, blood pooling beneath his leg.

“Parker!” She rushed to him, holstering her gun and pulling a knife to cut the zip ties.

“Skye?” Parker looked up, dazed. “Did the police come?”

“No police,” Alistair said, checking the bald man’s pulse. “He’s out cold. We need to move. The sirens were a distraction.”

They dragged Parker out into the rain. The flashing lights were coming from a set of strobe beacons placed strategically around the yard, rigged to a speaker system running a looped siren recording.

“Who set those up?” Skye asked, scanning the dark. “We didn’t bring those.”

Her phone buzzed. She pulled it out.

Sender: L. Clear the area. Reinforcements are coming. Not the friendly kind. Go to Safe House Bravo.

“Liam,” Skye whispered. She looked out into the darkness of the shipyard. Somewhere in the rain and the shadows, he was watching. He had set the distraction. He had saved them.

“Why doesn’t he show himself?” Parker groaned as Alistair and Victoria helped him toward the car.

“Because he knows something we don’t,” Skye said, a pang of sorrow moving through her chest. “He’s protecting us by staying away.”

Victoria shoved Parker into the back seat of the SUV. She looked at him, her expression unreadable. “You’re bleeding on the upholstery.”

“You saved me,” Parker murmured, staring at her with a mixture of shock and awe. “You dropped from the ceiling.”

“Don’t get used to it,” Victoria snapped, tearing a strip from her blouse to tie a tourniquet around his leg. Her hands were steady and efficient. “Next time you play hero, leave a note.”
