“As do I,” Skye said. “Which is why I propose a restructuring. I will convert my debt into equity. I will take a seat on the board. And in exchange, you proceed with the merger under the condition that operational control is transferred to a neutral party p>
“Neutral?” Sinclair asked. “Who p>
“Me,” Skye said.
Before Sinclair could answer, the French doors leading to the garden burst open.
Liam stumbled in. He was disheveled, his tie crooked, mud on his expensive shoes from sneaking through the garden.
“Don’t listen to her!” Liam shouted, pointing a shaking finger at Skye.
The room went silent. Chairman Sinclair looked at Liam with undisguised distaste.
“Mr. Kensington,” Sinclair said icily, “you are trespassing p>
“She’s stealing my company!” Liam yelled, advancing on the table. “She’s vindictive! She’s doing this to hurt me because of the divorce p>
Skye didn’t move. She didn’t shout back. She simply turned her head and looked at him.
“Liam,” she said, calm and reasonable, “you’re muddying the carpet p>
The contrast was brutal. Skye was cool, composed, the picture of competence. Liam was hysterical, messy—a child throwing a tantrum.
“Security!” Sinclair barked.
Two guards rushed in.
“Wait!” Liam pleaded, realizing he had made a mistake. “Chairman, please. The merger is my legacy! You can’t let her take it p>
“Your legacy is a fraud conviction and a viral video,” Sinclair said, rising to his feet. “Get him out of my sight p>
As the guards grabbed Liam, he locked eyes with Skye.
“Why?” he mouthed.
Skye touched the sapphire brooch on her chest.

Skye ignored the questions about Liam. She moved with fluid grace, her head held high. Felix cleared a path for her to the waiting limousine.

“Sinclair agreed,” Skye said, kicking off her heels. “On one condition. Liam is removed as CEO within thirty days p>
“That fits the timeline,” Alistair said. “The foreclosure process will take about that long. But Liam won’t go quietly. He’s cornered p>
“He’s desperate,” Skye agreed. “He looked… unhinged tonight, Alistair. He wasn’t just arrogant. He was scared p>
