As Marcus stepped into the doorway, Skye stumbled backward into the corner, out of the direct line of sight of the hallway cameras. She fell to the floor with a cry.
“Get out!” she screamed, her voice shrill with fake panic. “What are you doing p>
Marcus froze. He saw Skye on the floor, wrapped in a towel, looking up at him with wide, terrified eyes.
“I heard a noise,” Marcus stammered. He took a step forward, instinctively reaching out a hand to check the area.
From the hallway, the angle was perfect. It looked like Marcus was looming over a half-naked woman, reaching for her.
Skye screamed again, louder this time. “Don’t touch me! Get away p>
At that exact moment, Tessa walked past the open bedroom door. She stopped dead.
“Marcus!” Tessa gasped.
Marcus pulled his hand back as if burned. “No, wait, she fell p>
Heavy footsteps thundered down the hall. Lucian burst into the room. He took in the scene in one second—Skye on the floor, vulnerable; Marcus standing over her.
Lucian’s face went dark. It wasn’t concern for Skye. It was the rage of a man whose property had been tampered with.
“Marcus,” Lucian said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. “Step back p>
“Boss, she’s lying,” Marcus said, raising his hands. “She knocked something over. I came to check. She fell on purpose p>
“Did you enter the bathroom?” Lucian asked.
“Yes, but p>
“I told you to watch the door,” Lucian roared. “Not to join her in the shower p>
“She’s playing you!” Marcus shouted, desperation creeping into his voice.
Lucian crossed the room in two strides. He didn’t ask questions. He swung his fist.
The punch connected with Marcus’s jaw with a sickening crunch. Marcus stumbled back, crashing into the wall.
“She… she wouldn’t leave,” Skye whimpered from the floor, adding fuel to the fire. “He kept looking at me p>
Lucian turned back to Marcus. He pulled his gun.

Marcus held his jaw, blood trickling from his lip. He looked at Skye with pure hatred. He knew exactly what she had done. But he also knew Lucian. There was no arguing with his paranoia.
Marcus turned and stormed out of the room.
Lucian holstered his gun. He turned to Skye, reaching down to offer her a hand. Skye took it. She let him pull her up, keeping her head down.
“Are you hurt?” Lucian asked, inspecting her.
“I’m fine,” Skye whispered. “Just… shaken p>
She hid a smirk against his chest. The smartest guard was gone. The path was clearing.
Lucian led her to the bed and sat her down.
“Did he touch you?” Lucian asked, his eyes scanning her exposed shoulders for marks.
Skye shook her head. “No. I… I felt dizzy. And then I fell p>
She allowed her eyelids to flutter. She let her body go slack, slumping sideways on the mattress.
