Skye cowered on the floor, pulling her knees to her chest, playing the part of the terrified defector.
“I didn’t…” she whimpered. “I just wanted to make a deal. I didn’t tell anyone p>
Lucian looked at Elara. “Scan her again p>
Elara stepped forward, the wand humming. She ran it over Skye’s body. It beeped frantically near her chest.
“Underwire,” Skye said quickly, grabbing her chest. “It’s my bra. It’s metal p>
Elara didn’t blink. She didn’t buy it. A cruel smile touched her lips.
“Underwire doesn’t emit a frequency,” Elara said softly.
Before Skye could react, Elara reached into Skye’s dress. She didn’t care about modesty. She ripped the lining of the bra, her fingers digging in until she pulled out the small, soft-packet chip.
Skye’s blood ran cold. The lifeline. The only way Liam knew where she was.
Elara held the chip up between two fingers for Lucian to see.
“Amateurs,” Elara scoffed.
She dropped the chip onto the concrete floor and crushed it under her heavy combat boot. There was a sickening crunch of plastic and silicon.
Lucian’s face twisted into a mask of fury. He backhanded Skye across the face, sending her sprawling.
“You led them here?” he roared.
“No!” Skye cried, tasting copper. “Liam planted it! I didn’t know! I swear p>
“We have to move,” one of the guards said nervously.
“No,” Elara interjected, checking a monitor. “The signal died the moment I crushed it. If they were tracking it, they just lost the feed. They know she’s in the city, but they don’t know where. This bunker is lead-lined. We are invisible p>
Lucian paced in front of the rusting machinery, his chest heaving.

Two guards grabbed Tessa.
“Wait!” Skye interjected, her mind racing.
She was blind now. Liam didn’t know where she was. She had to re-establish a connection, and she needed a distraction to do it.
