Chapter 1189
The Old Man swallowed hard, taking a huge gulp of liquor to suppress the rising emotion. He smiled. “What are you thanking me for? Your grandmother’s request was enough to keep us busy for a lifetime p>
Serena smiled, her intoxicated eyes a little red, but her lips were curved upward.
“Alright, hurry back,” the Old Man waved, sitting back down in front of the tombstone.
Just as Nicholas stepped forward, the Old Man called out. “Kid, treat her well. She’s our precious treasure. If you dare mistreat her, these old bones can still throw a punch p>
Nicholas turned back and nodded solemnly. “I’ll remember that p>
The Old Man waved again. Nicholas carried Serena into the night.
After they left, the Old Man raised his jar to the tombstone and took another drink. “Aria, you raised a wonderful girl p>
The night grew heavier.
Nicholas’s car parked in front of the Blackwood estate. He got out and scooped the sleeping Serena from the passenger seat. She nestled against his chest, her breathing even, seemingly asleep.
But her eyelashes fluttered occasionally, as if she hadn’t completely fallen into a deep sleep.
As soon as he walked into the foyer, he ran straight into Brianna Blackwood, who was coming downstairs in her pajamas for a glass of water.
Seeing who it was, her eyes widened.
“Nicholas?!” Brianna covered her mouth, gasping in a hushed whisper. “You finally lost your mind trying to pursue her? Have you gone completely psycho? You actually kidnapped her p>
Nicholas shot her a look.
“What are you thinking?” he
muttered, carrying Serena upstairs. “She had too much to drink. Sending her back to the Lancaster family right now would only make them worry p>
Given how fiercely protective the Lancaster family was of Serena, they wouldn’t sleep a wink if she came home like this.
Brianna’s eyes lit up. She eagerly trailed behind him with her water glass.
“Nicholas she leaned in, whispering slyly, “Are you planning to take advantage of the fact that she’s drunk p>
Nicholas paused and scoffed. “Am I that kind of person p>
Brianna shrank back, muttering, “I only ask because you’re too much of a
gentleman. I’m getting anxious for you p>
Nicholas gave her a side-eye.
Brianna immediately shut up and
chuckled. Anyway… when
someone’s drunk they need to rest
immediately or they get a
headache. Come on, let me get the door for you p>
She skipped ahead and pushed open the door at the end of the hall.
Nicholas looked at her. “That’s my room p>
“I know!” Brianna nodded
matter-of-factly. “The guest rooms haven’t been cleaned in ages, they’re full of dust. How could she sleep in a place like that of course she has to sleep in your room. Your bed is big and clean p>
Seeing Brianna’s earnest expression, Nicholas didn’t argue. He carried Serena inside.
Brianna followed, playing the perfect host by grabbing a blanket from the closet and eagerly placing a glass of warm water on the nightstand.
Nicholas gently laid Serena down on the massive, plush bed, took off her shoes, and tucked her in. He turned, intending to ask Brianna to fetch a warm towel.
But when he looked back, the room was empty.
Brianna had sneaked out, not only fleeing the scene but grabbing the door handle on her way out.
