Chapter 920
Ever since Serena joined the class.
She spent her time either sleeping or staring blankly into space.
Sometimes, after waking up, she would just disappear completely.
Skipping an entire day of classes had basically become her baseline.
None of the professors could ever locate her.
The students in the class were top-tier prodigies selected from all over the country; they had never seen anyone behave like this.
This transfer student was an absolute stain on the flawless reputation of Marington College!
One day, after Serena had skipped yet another entire morning of classes—
“This is too much p>
Bianca, sitting in the front row, slammed her pen onto her desk, her face pale with fury.
She kicked Caleb’s chair. “Class President, tell me, how does someone like her deserve to be in the Vanguard Honors Program? She’s completely ruining it for the rest of us p>
“Didn’t you log her absences? Read it out loud for everyone to hear! Let’s see what that woman has actually accomplished in the week since she joined our class p>
Of course, these so-called absence logs were something she had specifically ordered Caleb to keep.
Caleb kept his head down, lost in thought.
Jolted by Bianca’s kick, he slowly looked up, adjusting his black-rimmed glasses. “She p>
He pressed his lips together, looking as though he wanted to say something.
He really wanted to tell everyone that Serena didn’t seem to be who she appeared to be p>
That piece of scratch paper he had pulled from the trash in the library the other day.
He had taken it home and run the calculations himself.
It turned out to be an entirely new set of programming algorithms that belonged in the latest computer science journals!
Moreover, Serena’s entire deductive process and her final results were absolutely flawless; there wasn’t a single error to be found.
But Caleb merely opened his mouth. Meeting Bianca’s threatening glare.
He lowered his eyes, obediently
stood up, and picked up his
notebook, “Serena Lancaster has
ет
missed seven classes this week and
slept through more than twenty
class periods,” he read, enunciating every word.
He was just a poor kid who had clawed his way out of Backwoods. Studying was his only way out of those mountains, his only chance to alter his destiny and bring hope to his hometown.
The Doyle family’s financial sponsorship was the only reason he could focus entirely on his studies at Marington College.
And Bianca was the beloved daughter of the Doyle family.
If he offended this young lady.
It could very well jeopardize the funding he received from the Doyle family.
Caleb knew Bianca had been targeting Serena all along, and even though he felt there was more to Serena than met the eye, he didn’t dare speak a single word in her defense.
Without the Doyle family’s sponsorship.
He would have absolutely no way to continue his education.
Hearing his report.
The entire class erupted in anger.
Bianca seized the opportunity. “Who among us in the Vanguard Honors Program isn’t working our fingers to the bone? But her? She’s treating this place like a luxury resort p>
Another girl adjusted her glasses, chiming in. checked. She doesn’t have a single academic assessment record for her admission. Her transcript is completely blank. The only thing we know is that she was specially approved by the principal. Just what kind of background does she have to make the principal bend the rules like that p>
Isabella cast a brief glance at Serena’s empty seat.
Since Serena wasn’t here.
She could comfortably put on her sympathetic act. “Don’t say that, everyone. Serena might… she might actually possess some extraordinary talent p>
“Talent? What talent?!” The other students were practically boiling over. “When we’re pulling all-nighters in the tab, she’s asleep! When we’re skipping meals to calculate a single data set, she’s still asleep!
“Marington College is a prestigious, century-old institution, and the Vanguard Honors Program is its crown jewel! She is utterly destroying our reputation p>
