The two socialites’ faces paled. Isabella’s expression also flickered, and she instinctively tightened her grip on Karen’s hand. That damn country girl always had to target her, no matter the occasion! How could she drag her into this?

Karen glanced at Isabella with an air of intimacy and sighed. “Fine. For Isabella’s sake, Miss Lancaster, as long as you publicly admit that your skills are inferior and apologize to Ms. Harland and Ms. Winslow, you don’t have to force yourself to go on stage p>
On the surface, her words seemed to offer a solution to the conflict-Serena just had to apologize, and the matter of the invitation would be dropped. But the implication was clear: it would be a public declaration that Serena not only didn’t have an invitation but was also nothing more than a hick from the slums. How could she possibly know how to play the piano? She had probably never even seen one.
