Seeing how calm and composed she looked, Jonathan raised an eyebrow. “I’ll go change,” he said. “The kitchen is that way. Make yourself at home p>
“Alright, Jonathan,” came Anneliese’s reply. I’ll let you know when I’m done p>
She adapted effortlessly into the role of a house helper.
By the time Jonathan looked back, she’d already gone into the kitchen without a second thought.
That very morning, Anneliese had guarded herself against Jonathan.
By the time evening rolled around, she seemed to have let her guard down as though he
weren’t a man.
He didn’t quite know how to feel about it. He looked like a pampered heir who’d never done a single chore, yet his kitchen was surprisingly well–stocked. The fridge was full, the pantry abundant.
Anneliese, mindful of time, decided to keep it simple and just make a bowl of pasta. She boiled some water, cooked the pasta, and quickly prepared two servings. She then added a few key ingredients.
She washed and chopped some basil, made some chili oil, and poured it over the pasta, filling the air with a savory aroma.
She pan–fried two eggs, gave everything a toss, and sprinkled some parmesan. It looked and smelled delicious.
Anneliese took one final whiff, satisfied with her creation.
She loosened her apron, about to call for Jonathan, when she froze.
Leaning against the kitchen doorway was a tall, slender figure. Jonathan had made his way into the kitchen silently. He was dressed comfortably in a baby blue V–neck cardigan and a pair of gray wide–leg pants.
The man looked relaxed yet refined, and undeniably sexy–a stark contrast to his sharp suit
from earlier.

He even looked a bit younger, almost like a college boy Anneliese might have seen on campus.
In truth, Jonathan was only twenty–six.
Oftentimes, his presence and commanding aura overshadowed his youth.
This unexpected shift was startling, but a feast for the eyes.
Anneliese froze, but Jonathan had already stepped forward.
“Why are you standing there like an idiot? Go and sit in the dining room. I’ll bring dinner over p>
Instinctively, Anneliese walked to the dining room. Only after sitting down did she realize something felt off.
She had come to cook as an apology, but now, it seemed like she was being treated to dinner.
However, Jonathan returned moments later with two plates of pasta, placing one in front of her before pulling out a chair opposite her.
Snapping back to herself, Anneliese smiled. “I didn’t know how much you’d eat, so I made a little extra. We can share the rest p>
Jonathan handed her some utensils. “This is more than enough. Let’s dig in p>
Anneliese pressed her lips into a small smile. She had only snacked lightly that afternoon, and walking the dog had made her a bit hungry.
More importantly, it was her birthday. The White family’s antics had ruined her day.
Quietly, she had hoped someone would share a simple meal with her on a day like this. She hadn’t expected it to be Jonathan, though.
Life worked that way sometimes–familiar people drifted away, while strangers gradually became close.
Anneliese relaxed. It felt like she had a small secret tucked in her heart.
She stole a glance at Jonathan, but unexpectedly, their eyes met.
He’d been looking at her, but his gaze seemed questioning.
She quickly dropped her gaze after being caught pecking, but she felt his presence linger.

She raised the phone to answer, then gestured for Jonathan to stay quiet.
He nodded, and she stepped to the floor–to–ceiling window to take the call.
