Anneliese had just stepped into the elevator when the doors began to slide shut.
At the last second, a hand slipped in, forcing them open again.
She looked up and found herself staring at a face she could hardly stand.

Selina stepped into the elevator and noticed Anneliese didn’t glance her way. That flash of jealousy in her eyes was impossible to miss.
Just minutes earlier, Selina had seen Jonathan at the hospital entrance, personally escorting Anneliese. They had been pulling at each other like a pair of lovesick teenagers, practically acting out a scene from some cheesy drama.

Selina waited for the flush of shame to creep over Anneliese’s expression, but it never came. From start to finish, Anneliese’s expression stayed perfectly calm, like nothing could touch her. As she leaned into the cold metal, Selina glimpsed her reflection. Her features looked warped, eyes blazing green with envy, lips drawn tight as if she could spit venom at any second. Behind her, Anneliese tilted her chin with lazy arrogance, her striking features alight with scorn and superiority.
