Anneliese finally reached Maple Bay, and then she remembered she needed to pick up Meatloaf. She called Jonathan.
Jonathan gave her access to the top floor. When she arrived, she saw only one apartment.
She rang the bell. The door opened almost at once.
A man stood there, looking like he had just stepped out of the shower. He wore a long black robe, the belt tied tight, the collar neat. Only a strip of shin and a lean ankle showed.
His damp hair stuck to his forehead, a few strands falling loose. His skin smelled fresh and clean, with a sharp edge of danger that made Anneliese freeze.
Her breath caught. “Where’s Meatloaf p>
He stepped aside.
