Selina’s expression softened a little as she grasped Mikita’s hand the other way around. “Better be careful,” she murmured.
Mikita nodded cagerly. “I’m just worried about you, okay? That Anneliese–she’s the lowest of the low. How dare she flirt with Mr. Fullbuster and then leak the recording to all those people? She’s ruined your reputation! And don’t even get me started on that idiot Christopher–how does he not know what’s okay to say and what’s not p>
Before Mikita could finish, the hospital room door was shoved open with force.

Lenora’s attention snapped back instantly, gripping Selina with urgency. “Zach insists on forcing Coral to have an abortion! He’s furious we hid things from him and got him to divorce Anneliese. Now he’s even angry with Mom and me. We can’t stop him! Selina, you have to talk some sense into him p>
Selina let herself be pulled out of the room, her eyes flashing nothing but impatience and disgust.
Coral kinda looks like me, like some cheap stand – in. And now this stand – in thinks she will get pregnant and have a kid? I never paid much attention to her before – figured keeping her around might mess with Anneliese a little. Zacharias had assumed Selina was coming to persuade him to keep the child. His expression had been sharp and hard, but now he was taken aback–Selina was actually siding with him.

Selina frowned, a hint of regret in her expression. “I feel for the child–it’s innocent. But I have my own stance. I’m Anne’s sister. I can’t take Coral’s side. Besides, I know you can’t let go of Anne. As your friend, I have to support your choice p>
Selina needed Zacharias to pursue Anneliese even more. She refused to believe Jonathan could remain indifferent if Anneliese and Zacharias were still entangled.
Zacharias‘ gaze softened completely.
“You just can’t force it–imagine how messy that would be. Here’s what you do: act like you’re convinced by me, and I’ll handle Mrs. Shaw and Lenora. As for getting Coral to go quietly onto the operating table, I don’t even need to explain that part, right p>
Zacharias nodded, and Selina immediately turned to Melody and Lenora, giving each of them a quick, decisive nod.
The three lit up with relief, while Coral clutched Selina’s hand, thanking her repeatedly.
Coral had heard that Selina and Anneliese didn’t get along at all. She figured Selina was protecting her baby primarily to spite Anneliese.
But after drinking a single glass of milk that night, Coral slipped into a deep sleep. When she opened her eyes, she found herself lying alone on a hospital bed, and her baby was gone.
When the doorbell rang, Anneliese was busy in the kitchen, getting breakfast ready.
Before she could even say a word, Meatloaf crouched right beside her, shot off toward the door like a rocket.

Anneliese frowned and patted Meatloaf’s head to calm him. Her voice was sharp. “Meatloaf’s registered, vaccinated against rabies, and microchipped. He’s perfectly legal to be here. On the other hand, some people seem to think it’s fine to barge into private homes p>
