She opened the dozen or so screenshots Nicole had sent and saw that someone had spread photos and videos from that night at the White estate–Jonathan holding her in his arms- across countless groups. Along with them came misleading captions, twisting the story into claims that she had deliberately seduced him.
Her face turned cold. Before she could respond, Nicole sent two more voice messages.
“ Tsk, tsk, who would’ve thought you had it in you? Pulling something this big off in silence! Even managing to hook the Prince of Halden? What a pity I didn’t go to the White family banquet that night to see it for myself.
“I mean, with how stiff you always are, how on earth did you land a guy like Mr. Fullbuster? You even drove Selina–Miss Perfect Angelic B*tch herself–completely insane. She’s lost her cool, plastering pictures and videos everywhere just to smear you. Impressive, really. Got any flirting tips to share p>
“You should’ve divorced ages ago! Didn’t I tell you? That so–called ‘self–made man‘ was never worth it–only you treated him like treasure. But I really didn’t expect your second round at love to be this good! Honestly, even I’m tempted to take a jab at you out of jealousy, you brat p>
Anneliese had no words.
“So, you think Selina’s behind this too?” She recorded a short reply.
“Of course. Classic Selina. She’s always used these kinds of tricks, stirring up group chats to bully people. Pathetic p>
Anneliese had to agree. That night at the White estate, when she had fallen into the water, hardly anyone had the chance to take clear photos or videos. Only Selina could have gathered such complete footage to spread around.
“Thanks. I’ll treat you to dinner sometime,” Anneliese replied.
But Nicole shot back, “Don’t bother. I can’t stand Selina, so watching you drive her crazy is enough of a gift. I’ll treat you to a feast instead. And if you bring Mr. Fullbuster along so I can admire him in person, all the better p>
Anneliese sighed. What was she supposed to do? She and Jonathan were just friends, yet seemed like everyone believed there was something more.

She understood perfectly well what Selina was trying to do–create public pressure, surround her with gossip and insults, and force her to retreat from Jonathan. But people always had a streak of rebellion in them. The more Selina tried to pull tricks like this, the more Anneliese found herself tempted to take Jonathan up on his earlier proposal.
The next morning, Anneliese rose early and prepared breakfast. Seeing Jessica still asleep, she packed it neatly into containers, clipped Meatloaf’s leash, and headed out.
Since Jessica was staying with her for now, it wasn’t convenient to invite Jonathan down for breakfast. Her plan was to bring the food up to him first, then take the dog for a walk. But when she rang the bell, the door opened to reveal a middle–aged woman she had never seen before.
The smile froze on her lips as she glanced around, wondering if she had pressed the wrong doorbell. But Jonathan lived in the penthouse, and his was the only unit on this floor.
The woman, however, greeted her warmly. “You must be Ms. Claude. I’m Mr. Fullbuster’s housekeeper. Just call me Mabel p>
Anneliese blinked, then recovered. “Hello, Mabel. So… you’re back on duty already p>
Nothing urgent or dire came up back home at all, but Mabel was unexpectedly given a paid month off, only to be called back on short notice last night. But if her employer said she had an emergency, she had an emergency.
Smiling kindly, she added, “Yes, exactly p>
Noticing her gaze fall on the food container, Anneliese lifted it slightly. “I brought breakfast for Jonathan. But since you’re back, I guess I don’t need to prepare these anymore p>
Mabel nodded, though she didn’t take the box, still smiling. “Thank you for filling in the past few weeks. I’ve made breakfast, Mr. Fullbuster already ate, and went to work. He probably just forgot to let you know. Would you like to come in for a chat p>
She stepped aside to make room, but Anneliese pulled the container back. Looking into the apartment, her eyes landed on the pink rabbit–car slippers lying neatly at the entryway.
Jonathan had bought them for her just the day before at the supermarket, insisting they’d be convenient for her whenever she came by to cook. She had never even worn them. And now that his housekeeper was back, it seemed there was no reason to anymore.
This morning, he hadn’t needed her to make breakfast. He hadn’t even told her he’d already gone to work. Maybe… maybe he didn’t need her at all anymore.
