Anneliese finished two sets of lab tests, and it was almost time for dinner.
She organized her data and then finally reached for her phone.
There were a few new messages on WhatsApp, and also two missed calls from unknown numbers.
Anneliese ignored the missed calls, opened WhatsApp, and saw Jonathan had messaged her. Just seeing his name there made her eyes light up a little.
But before she could even open his message, another call came in from an unfamiliar number.

Anneliese paused for a second before realizing this must be Jonathan’s mother-her mother-in-law, at least in name.

A butler in a suit and glasses stood waiting outside. When he saw the bouquet in Anneliese’s hands, he looked her over, then gave a fake smile.

The butler could barely contain his irritation, his expression turning ugly.
