Chapter 381

Chapter 381:

The black Maybach slid out of the shadows like a silent, deadly ghost. It merged into the sparse night traffic and locked onto the taillights of June’s Bentley.

The massive black Maybach rolled to a complete stop, sitting like a silent, heavy beast in the emergency parking lane directly across from Mount Sinai Hospital.

The rain was still falling, slicking the dark pavement.

Inside the rear cabin, Cole stared through the tinted glass. He watched the taillights of June’s Bentley disappear down the concrete ramp of the underground parking garage.

His stomach twisted into a violent, painful knot. Acid burned the back of his throat.

He did not wait for his driver to open the door. Cole shoved it open himself and stepped out into the freezing rain.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻

He moved like a ghost, not caring that his expensive suit was getting soaked. He crossed the street quickly, slipping into the hospital’s underground entrance and keeping a wide distance between himself and June.

He watched her step out of her car. He watched her lean heavily on her carbon-fiber crutch, her right foot trapped in the bulky medical boot, moving toward the VIP elevator bank with urgent, anxious energy.

Cole’s jaw ticked. He swiped his exclusive Compton family access card over the security scanner. The heavy glass doors slid open instantly.

He stepped into the elevator beside hers and watched the digital numbers climb to the top floor.

When the doors opened on the VIP level, the corridor was completely silent. Harsh fluorescent lights buzzed softly overhead.

Cole stepped out and immediately pressed his back against the cold wall, sliding into the shadow of a recessed fire extinguisher cabinet.

His heart hammered violently against his ribs.

At the far end of the long hallway, he saw her.

June was standing outside a private suite. Standing right next to her was Brogan Clements.

Brogan looked down at June, his face filled with intense gratitude and apology. He leaned in close, whispering something to her.

Cole’s hands curled into tight fists. His fingernails dug so deeply into his palms the skin nearly broke.

A wave of pure, toxic jealousy crashed over him, making it hard to pull oxygen into his lungs.

He watched June shake her head. She looked exhausted, but she offered Brogan a small, understanding nod.

Then they both turned and walked into the hospital room. The heavy wooden door clicked shut behind them.

Cole could not stop himself.

His expensive leather shoes made no sound on the linoleum. He crept down the hallway step by step until he was standing directly outside the room. Then he retreated to the shadows of an intersecting corridor, pulled out his phone, and moved with cold, efficient fury across the screen. Within seconds, he had bypassed the hospital’s firewalls and pulled up the security feed for the VIP floor. A grainy, silent video feed appeared, showing the interior of the room from a camera angled perfectly toward the bed. He couldn’t hear the words, but he could see everything.
