Chapter 545:
He kept his grip on her hand, but instead of twisting her arm, he yanked it upward and pressed her open palm firmly against his right cheek — the uninjured side of his face. He held it there, hard against his skin.
“Hit me,” Cole rasped. The words scraped out of him like something dragged up from a very dark place — a sick, broken plea. “If hitting me makes you less angry, then keep doing it p>
June stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. The untouchable, arrogant billionaire had discarded every last remnant of his dignity and was standing before her with nothing left.
“Just sign the withdrawal agreement!” His voice cracked apart with desperation. “Just don’t go with Easton Hahn! You can beat me until your hands bleed — I don’t care p>

His broad shoulders dropped. His massive frame curved and hunched, making himself deliberately small — the most abject, submissive posture imaginable, offered up in exchange for a single drop of mercy.
June looked at him.
She felt no surge of triumph. No satisfaction. Instead, a deep, somatic wave of nausea rolled through her stomach, and acid burned at the back of her throat.
This man — this powerful, cold, devastating man — was willing to strip himself of every shred of self-respect to protect the parents of the woman who had stolen June’s life. He was showing a bottomless, unwavering devotion to Alycia’s family. A devotion he had never once, in four years of marriage, shown to her.
Her stomach turned violently.
June yanked her hand back with explosive force, recoiling as though she had touched something rotten.
“Cole, you are truly pathetic.” Her voice was completely flat — the tone of a judge delivering a sentence with no possibility of appeal. “Do you think acting like a victim is going to soften my heart? Do you think your dignity means anything to me anymore p>
She took a large step backward, widening the distance between herself and his presence as though she needed the air.
“You turned yourself into a begging dog for a woman who stole my identity and my life,” June said, each word precise and cold. “So listen to me carefully. Even if you drop to your knees and drive your head into this floor, I will never sign that paper p>
She lifted her chin.
“I am going to watch them go to federal prison. And I am going to watch you stand there, completely powerless to stop it p>
The words found every gap in his armor and detonated inside his chest, reducing his last fragment of hope to ash.
Cole looked into her eyes. There was no ambiguity in what he saw there — only disgust, absolute and unfiltered. The full weight of the truth came crashing down on him all at once. His begging had accomplished nothing. His presence brought her no comfort. To June, he was not a man she had once loved. He was a source of contamination she wanted gone.
A broken, hollow smile spread slowly across Cole’s face.
