Chapter 512:
Before she could open her mouth to respond, a large shadow fell over her.
Easton stepped smoothly in front of June, using his broad shoulders and tall frame to place himself as a physical wall between her and the Beasleys. He did not yell. He did not raise his voice.
He simply turned his head and looked down at them.
The soft, domestic warmth that had been in his eyes a moment ago was gone entirely. His dark eyes had become still, freezing voids — regarding the Beasleys not as people, but as something unpleasant he was about to remove from his path. It was a look of absolute, apex-predator contempt, and the sheer weight of his silence was more terrifying than any raised voice.
Susan’s sneer faltered. She took an involuntary step backward, her heel catching on the concrete. The most primitive part of her brain registered that the man standing in front of her was genuinely dangerous.
Richard swallowed hard. His bravado evaporated under Easton’s dead, unblinking stare.

The piercing wail of police sirens erupted from the end of the block.
Susan and Richard both flinched, their heads snapping around.
Two NYPD cruisers tore around the corner, lights strobing violently against the gray buildings. They accelerated hard down the street and braked with a harsh screech, coming to a halt directly in front of the hospital entrance and cutting off the Beasleys’ path to the street.
The doors flew open.
Four uniformed officers stepped out, faces grim and unsmiling. They unclipped their handcuffs as they walked with steady, purposeful strides toward the group on the sidewalk.
Susan and Richard froze, confusion and panic washing over their faces in equal measure.
The lead officer — a tall man with a thick mustache — drew a folded document from his chest pocket. He looked at it, then looked directly at the couple.
“Richard Beasley? Susan Beasley?” he said, his voice carrying the full, unshakable authority of the law.
Richard nodded stupidly, his mouth hanging open. “Yes? What is the meaning of this p>
The officer did not hesitate. He stepped forward, seized Richard’s arm, and twisted it firmly behind his back.
“You are under arrest,” the officer stated, the sharp metallic click of the handcuffs ringing out in the cold air.
The heavy steel handcuffs bit into Richard Beasley’s wrists.
“What are you doing?!” Richard shrieked, his voice cracking with panic. He thrashed his shoulders, trying to wrench free from the officer’s iron grip. “Get your hands off me! I am a respected businessman! Do you have any idea who I am p>
Beside him, Susan let out a piercing, hysterical scream as a female officer grabbed her arms and pressed her firmly against the side of the cruiser to cuff her.
