Chapter 304:

“You really are a curse, June,” Alycia sneered. “First you ruin Cole’s life, and now you drag Crawford Love into a death trap. You are nothing but a parasite p>

June did not blink. Her breathing remained perfectly steady. She looked directly into Alycia’s eyes and delivered a single word.

“Leave p>

The absolute dismissal detonated something inside Alycia. She hated that June never looked intimidated. She hated that June always looked through her as though she were made of air.

Alycia’s face flushed a mottled, violent red. She let out a sharp, ugly sound and raised both hands, lifting the heavy crystal vase high above her head. She aimed the solid, jagged glass base directly at June’s face, preparing to drive it into her skull.

In the shadows, Cole’s pupils dilated in pure horror.

His muscles finally unlocked. He lunged forward, his boots hitting the floor, closing the distance to tackle Alycia to the ground.

He did not make it two steps.

A sudden, violent movement inside the hospital room stopped him cold.

Crawford Love — a man with a crushed chest and a severe concussion — let out a guttural, terrifying roar and hurled his body upward. The agonizing pain of his broken ribs slammed him immediately back down, stealing the breath from his lungs. He refused to stop. He reached across with his good hand and smashed it against the bedside table, ripping the cluster of monitor wires from his chest and dragging a metal tray of medical equipment crashing to the floor in a chaotic explosion of plastic and metal. A piercing alarm erupted from the machines and screamed through the entire floor. Crawford could not stand, but he dragged his upper body toward the edge of the mattress and thrust his uninjured arm out toward the door — desperately trying to warn June, to shield her with the only part of him that could still move.

The violent movement ripped the thick intravenous needle clean from his vein.

Bright red blood sprayed across his pale skin and dripped heavily onto the white floor tiles.

Alycia let out a terrified shriek.

She looked up and found Crawford staring down at her. His dark eyes were completely feral — the look of a wounded predator ready to kill.

Alycia’s hands opened in pure panic.

The heavy crystal vase dropped from her grip. It struck the marble floor with a deafening crash, sending gallons of water, crushed white petals, and lethal shards of jagged glass scattering in every direction.

June spun around. Her eyes widened in absolute shock when she saw the blood pouring down Crawford’s arm. She seized his forearm immediately and pressed her bare thumb directly over the bleeding puncture wound, bearing down with all her strength to stop the hemorrhage.

“Crawford! Are you insane?” June cried, her voice cracking with genuine panic.

Crawford did not look at his bleeding arm. He did not look at the blood coating June’s fingers.

He looked at her face.

His chest heaved with ragged, painful breaths.

“Did she hurt you?” Crawford asked.

His voice was a raw, broken rasp, but the absolute, terrifying devotion in his tone was unmistakable.
