His mind kept returning to June’s eyes on the courthouse steps, to her words — precise and final as a door closing. Each repetition carved a little deeper.
His chief of staff knocked and entered carefully, holding a yellow envelope stamped with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s confidential seal, accompanied by a letter on law firm letterhead.
