Chapter 380:

June hugged her good arm across her chest and offered a small, genuine smile. “Thank you for the rabbit, Easton p>

He gave a slight nod and walked out. The heavy door clicked shut behind him.

June leaned her back against the cool wood of the door and let out a long, shuddering breath. Her heart was still beating a little too fast.

Her cell phone buzzed violently in her pocket. It was Brogan calling.

June answered immediately. “Brogan p>

“June, I am so incredibly sorry to call you this late,” Brogan’s voice sounded frantic and exhausted. “My grandfather is having a massive panic attack. He is refusing his blood pressure medication. He is screaming at the nurses, demanding to see you p>

In the background, June could hear the faint, muffled shouts of the old man.

June pinched the bridge of her nose. Her brain was exhausted, but she could not let a dying man suffer a stroke over a misunderstanding.

He looked like a corpse. His eyes were bloodshot and sunken, surrounded by dark, bruised circles. A rough shadow of stubble covered his jaw. The air inside the car reeked of stale whiskey and pure, toxic desperation.

He had been parked in that alleyway for hours. He had watched Easton Hahn walk into her building. He had sat in the dark, his stomach twisting violently, imagining another man inside his wife’s apartment.

When Easton finally left, Cole had felt a sick, pathetic wave of relief.

But then, less than ten minutes later, he watched June’s Bentley speed out of the garage.

The car was moving fast, heading downtown in the middle of the night.

In Cole’s twisted, paranoid mind, there was only one explanation. She was rushing to a hotel to meet her lover.

The jealousy burned through his veins like battery acid, incinerating the last remaining shreds of his sanity.

Cole leaned forward, his hands gripping the leather seat in front of him so hard his knuckles cracked.

“Follow her,” Cole growled to his driver. His voice sounded demonic, stripped entirely of its humanity. “Do not lose that car p>
