June stepped out wearing a sharp, perfectly tailored charcoal pantsuit. Her left arm was still secured in the dark sling, her right foot in the medical boot. She was looking down at her phone, thumb scrolling through a work email.
Cole’s heart slammed violently against his ribs.
He moved like a coiled spring snapping loose, lunging up from the sofa and closing the distance between them in three massive strides. He stepped directly into her path, blocking her completely.
June gasped, startled by the sudden movement. She jerked her head up.
When she saw Cole’s face, the surprise vanished instantly. Her features hardened into a mask of absolute, freezing ice. She caught the faint odor of alcohol and stale sweat clinging to his clothes.
