Alpha Kane
I was sorting out the Peck matters; all my Pecks were in danger. Then I got a call from Kaiser, who asked me to go to his apartment in Sterling Empire. So, I transferred the Peck matters to Beta Hunter.
Caysir’s call made me rush out of the pack like Lightning. I imagined her feeling vulnerable and possibly panicked. I wanted to be with her as soon as possible. Olfie drove me as fast as he could, and Caysir let me in, since he lived there too.
Caysir was waiting for me outside her apartment.
“What happened? How did a dead bird end up in her purse?” I growled irritably, unable to contain my anger. My hands clenched at my sides.
Caysir was supposed to be protecting her, but she was facing a new threat.
“I was with Zara the whole time. A man attacked her at the mall; it seems that this man somehow slipped a bird into her purse,” he explained, looking guilty and ashamed; he could barely look me in the eye.
“No one, I repeat, no one, is allowed near her. You have one duty, Caysir: take this seriously,” I scolded, maintaining a firm tone and piercing gaze.
“I apologize, it won’t happen again.” Caysir still sat, his head bowed in shame.
“Show me that damn bird.” I was starting to get irritated, and Caysir handed me the zip-lock bag he was holding.
I snatched it from his hands and examined the bird and the carvings on it. It looked like someone sick had taken their time mutilating the poor bird. The eyes had been gouged out, and the feathers carefully removed, so that the warning would remain in the poor bird’s body.
“Sick. Give this to Beta and tell him to report your find as soon as possible p>
Caysir nodded quickly, turning his gaze to Olfie.
“Go, I’ll talk to you later.” I wanted to see Zara. They both hurried away.
Opening the door, I entered my apartment and locked it behind me.
When I entered, she was sitting on a chaise lounge, so lost and alone. My heart sank with pain when I saw her like this.

For a split second, she sat motionless, and then finally turned to me. Tears glistened in her eyes like pearls, and her lips trembled. Leaving the chaise lounge, she rushed toward me.
I immediately opened my arms to receive her.
She burst into tears and despair, clinging to me like a lost and fragile kitten.
I hated tears, and yet there she was, sobbing in my arms, and I could do nothing about them. I hugged her, stroking her back to soothe her.
The weight of her tears felt heavy, pressing on my chest, as if they weren’t just salt water, but boulders pressing on my heart.
For some reason, I felt guilty. I’d let her down, failed to keep her safe. She was my responsibility, especially knowing her family wasn’t even here, and she lived alone.
But I promised this would be the last time. I’d hire a private investigator and get to the bottom of this.
“Everything will be fine. I’m here now,” I said calmly, so as not to upset her.
“Stay… with… me Alpha,” she muttered through her tears, clutching my shirt tightly, refusing to let go.
“I’m not going anywhere.” My hand rested on her head, and I pulled her closer to my chest, instilling a reassuring confidence in her.
It took her a moment to calm down, and I led her to the couch so we could sit and talk. She settled down next to me, and I put my arm around her so she could cuddle up to me.
“If you want, we can call my Detective Wolf Organization,” I asked, in case she wanted to involve them because the situation was getting out of control.
She sniffled, pulled a tissue from the box, and wiped her eyes and nose. They were red from crying.
Shaking her head furiously, she replied in a quiet voice, “I can’t. The news will spread instantly and reach my family. They’ll call me back no matter what I say. I don’t want that p>
She had a point, even though she looked so broken and scared; every instinct in me simply wanted to protect her.
“Then I’ll hire a private investigator. He’ll find out who’s trying to hurt you.” I took both her soft hands in mine and emphasized, “Remember, he won’t succeed. I won’t let anyone hurt you p>
She looked at me with a slight, hurt smile, but the sadness and fear in her eyes didn’t disappear.
“I know. This has never happened before, and I felt so alone p>
“You’re not alone, I’m here.” I squeezed her hands gently.
She merely nodded at me, and I could only imagine what she was thinking. We men overlook so many things. But as a she-wolf, I knew she saw the world from a different perspective. So many predators out there.
“I am constantly working on the issue; the truth will come out soon. Don’t worry and relax,” I said, but at those words, an unfamiliar pain flared in my heart. I realized I didn’t want to tear her like this; I’d grown accustomed to seeing her every day with her stubborn expressions.
She shook her head again. “No, I know Alpha, you’re working in this mess already p>
That was so unlike her. I liked it when she was so cheerful and provocative that her eyes sparkled with mischief, and there was a certain quirk about her, ready to call out to me.
“Zara, don’t be sad. My wolf doesn’t like it when you cry. The world is happier when you smile p>
My other packs are also facing strange and unknown threats, raids, disappearances, and secret attacks in the shadows. Someone powerful is moving against me, targeting every pack under my protection.
It feels planned, calculated, as if they want to break our unity and claim everything I’ve built. But who is behind this? An enemy from the past, or someone much closer than I ever imagined?
